Sia is moving to gain sole custody of the child she privately welcomed with her second husband, Daniel Bernard, amid their divorce proceedings.

Us Weekly confirmed that the singer filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her separation. The date of separation was listed as March 18. She is petitioning the court to prevent spousal payments to him.

The Grammy-nominated Australian singer-songwriter and Bernard, her second husband, had been married for two years. They married in an intimate ceremony in May 2023 in Italy, though the court documents mention their wedding date as December 2022.

As reported by The Independent, only six people attended their ceremony at the time, which was held at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's Villa Olivetta. The two also secretly welcomed a son during their marriage, Somersault Wonder Bernard, who was born in 2024. He is now 11 months old.

Everything we know about Sia's divorce, marriages, and life as a mom:

People Magazine has reported that she filed the documents on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The Unstoppable singer is also petitioning for legal and physical custody of their son, though according to People Magazine, the filing states that she is willing to consider visitation rights.

Born Sia Furler, the singer was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2017, though they parted ways as "friends." In a statement to Us Weekly at the time, they said:

"After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple. We are, however, dedicated to remaining friends. There will be no further comment.”

In May 2020, Sia revealed she had adopted two 18-year-old boys a year before. While she hasn't been vocal about her life as a mother, she has shared her struggles with conceiving. Speaking with InStyle in 2020, she revealed that she and her then-husband opted for in vitro fertilization (IVF).

“Eventually, we did get embryos, but then we also got a divorce, so I wasn't able to use them,” she said.

During a September 2023 interview on Apple Music 1 with Zane Lowe, she reflected on her divorce, saying it “really threw me for a loop.”

“That was such a dark time that I was in bed for three years, really, really severely depressed. And so I couldn’t really do anything for that period of time.”

Sia, 49, is renowned for her nine Grammy nominations, five of which were for her 2014 hit track Chandelier.
