Redman has revealed he keeps his work life and home life separate when it comes to spending time with collaborator Method Man, but there's no bad blood between them.
During a recent guest appearance on the Julian Dorey Podcast, the New Jersey DJ/MC, whose real name is Reggie Noble, exclaimed “Hell no!” when probed about hanging out with his How High partner outside of work.
Method Man, real name Clifford Smith, Jr., and Redman made their debut back in the 90s, and over the years, they have been known to go by several aliases, including Meth & Red, Red & Mef, John Blaze, and Funk Doc.
While they met in the early 90s, it was only in 1995 that they began working together, when they worked with 2Pac on his Got My Mind Made Up track. That same year, they dropped their debut single, How High. Their debut album, Blackout!, came out in 1999 and was a massive hit, having sold 254,000 copies and debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Redman says he'd love to work with Method Man in future as the latter says he's done with music in the meantime: Read more
Reflecting on his bond with Method Man outside of work, Redman said:
“We do shows and we come back home,” he explained. “I don’t hang out with a lot of rappers at all. This is work, this is home. We’re very inclusive with our movement. Once we’re off the road, we’re like, ‘Alright. You got family to deal with, I got shit I gotta do.’ My circle is very small. So we all have different lives. I don’t hang out with rappers. I might call."
He went on,
“There’s a lot of MCs who I’m connected with. Of course Wu[-Tang Clan] is my crew or whatever, but there’s a lot of artists that we might chop it up on the phone – but no. The only artists I hang out with is my boy DoItAll from Lords of The Underground and Treach if I see him in the hood and that’s about it. And Kid Capri. Kid Capri is my big bro. I talk to him and go see him all the time. But he’s not a rapper though. He’s a DJ. One of the best.”
Redman did, however, express interest in reuniting with his longtime collaborator for the third installment of Blackout!. However, as reported by Hot 97, Method Man has since shifted his interest toward acting and producing. During a recent conversation with Red Bull, he stated,
“We are not even focused on no Blackouts! or any of that right now. Brother, we are focused on this TV and movie stuff and producing as well.”
Only time will tell if the duo returns to produce Blackout! 3, though, in the meantime, it seems they are on their separate ways in the entertainment industry.
