Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially divorced and single as of this Friday.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge declared their marriage dissolved on January 6, adding that it would take effect on February 21. By January, much of the pressing issues had been hashed out, and according to Entertainment Weekly, neither individual is required to pay spousal support.
According to the Associated Press, Lopez will now axe Affleck from her legal name. The two got married in 2022. However, two years later, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.
A quick look at the union and demise of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's marriage:
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck don't share any children, though they have kids from past marriages. While the former is a mother to two teenagers, twins Emme and Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Affleck shares Violet, 19; Seraphina, 16; and Samuel, 12, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Just this past October, Lopez reflected on her high-profile breakup with Ben Affleck during an interview with Interview Magazine.
"I did all the work and look at where I am, and then it was like my whole f---ing world exploded," she said at the time. "And yeah, there's times when I thought I figured it out, and then life goes, 'Let's send you another thing and see if you fall for it. Let’s see if you really have learned that lesson'."
She went on, adding that she wants to be content with just herself:
"And I hadn't. I understand that now in a much deeper way, which doesn’t mean that I won't make mistakes in the future, but again, when your whole house blows up, you’re standing there in the rubble going, 'How do I not ever let that happen again?' And then you start examining it little by little saying, 'Okay, I did this, this was my part in it, this was what I should have seen early on, this is what I didn't look at.' Those things are what really are the lessons."
Affleck and Lopez famously first got together in 2002, on the set of Gigli. By November of that year, the two had gotten engaged. However, they pushed their wedding and by January 2004, they parted ways. They eventually got back together in 2021, and by the following year, they got hitched.
According to People Magazine, Affleck has begun seeing other people, with a source telling the outlet:
"Ben's casually dating. This doesn't seem to be a focus though." The source also said that he is “very focused on work," adding, "If he's not filming, he spends long days at his office.”
At the time of writing, it remains unclear if Ben Affleck is seeing anyone in particular.
