Dallas-based rapper Ian is pushing back on Tyler, The Creator's criticism of him from last year.
In a video released this Monday, Ian can be seen freestyle rapping for Lyrical Lemonade's Lunch Break Freestyle series. He name-dropped Tyler's former collective, Odd Future, before adding that he never wanted to offend anyone with his music, prompting him to stay mum.
His lyrics come in response to Tyler, The Creator's interview with Maverick Carter from last year. At the time, the former Odd Future frontman dissed Ian as a "white kid, regular Caucasian man" for allegedly making music that "mocked Future and Gucci Mane."
The beef between Tyler, The Creator, and Ian explored:
During his interview last year, Tyler, The Creator said:
“This white kid, regular caucasian man, and he’s like mocking Future and Gucci Mane like rap music. And people like, ‘this sh*t hard. It’s not ever satire, it’s like ‘I’m just joking, I’m just mocking’. But I’m like, no, no, no. You can’t. And I hold rap music so close and I’m a nerd about this sh*t. This is like… weird. I’m looking at it and something about it don’t sit well with me. In comparison to someone like a Mac Miller or an Eminem. Who it didn’t seem like they was mocking it, they had a genuine love for it.”
He echoed his sentiments in his Chromakopia track "Thought I Was Dead," in which he rapped:
"White boys mocking this sh*t and y'all mad at me / Y'all can suck my d*ck / Pull up old tweets, pull up old t-shirts, all that / I'll moonwalk over that b*tch."
In his latest freestyle, the 19-year-old Valedictorian spitter rapped:
"Back then, I really loved Odd Future / I ain't never sat down tryna' mock Future. I ain't wanna show no disrespect, so I kept my mouth shut and that's not human / damn, would've been a dumbass thing to do."
While Tyler has yet to comment on the situation, he is currently touring the world in support of CHROMAKOPIA, alongside Lil Yachty and Paris Texas. As reported by Hot New Hip Hop, Yachty had some good things to say about Tyler during one of their recent shows:
"I want to show my appreciation to my big brother Tyler, The Creator," Yachty remarked during their Milwaukee stop. "That man is a genius. He’s paved the way. We might not see another creative like him for 20, 30, even 100 years. I just want to make sure I give him his flowers. He’s special."
It remains to be seen how the artist responds to this latest clapback.
