Actress Mo'Nique, aka Monique Angela Hicks, has a few questions for actor Tyler Perry. This goes back to singer Angie Stone's memorial service, where Perry shared a eulogy. Invoking some points he mentioned during his speech, Monique mentioned she never got the apology Tyler Perry promised in 2016.

She took to her Instagram on March 18, 2025, and shared a clip of his eulogy speech with an open letter from her and her husband in the caption. Monique began the letter:

“I recently watched your heartfelt speech at Angie Stone’s funeral, where you expressed frustration over her mistreatment by the music industry. It struck me, and my husband Sidney, as poignant, but also made us reflect on some unsettling discrepancies in your actions towards me.”

Mo'Nique questioned how he could criticize mistreatment in the industry while contributing to similar issues in her case. She pointed out that Perry labeled her "difficult to work with" despite never collaborating with her and mentioned having audio of him admitting he was wrong.

She also brought up the statement in which he asked about money owed to Angie Stone and challenged him about the promised public apology. She stated that the negative narrative he helped spread led to her being blackballed, resulting in significant financial losses, and asked how he planned to make amends.

Mo'Nique pointed out the contradiction in Tyler Perry's stance. While he spoke about being frustrated with unfair treatment, he had asked her to promote Precious without payment or a contract. She pointed out the inconsistency between his actions and his words.

Mo'Nique raised the question of "accountability" in her letter to Tyler Perry

She questioned Tyler Perry's commitment to his faith and asked why he had not followed through on his promised apology. She pointed out that he had criticized the music industry and should be held accountable.

Mo'Nique expressed hope that his speech at Angie Stone's funeral would motivate him to make things right with her and her family, reminding him of the biblical lesson about the cost of success at the expense of one's soul. In his eulogy speech, Perry said:

“Y'all gotta forgive me because I am angry at the way she was treated. I did not know all the things that she was going through. Recently, I found out cause I am not on Instagram. I am not being hooked and manipulated by an algorithm telling me what to think and how to feel.”

He continued:

“But to think that this woman was in the business for all of these years, and there's a difference between performing because you want to. And performing because you have to. All of those years, all of those songs, all of that money that was owed to her. Where is it? It's wrong. It is wrong.”

Tyler Perry described Angie Stone as a prophet, saying she had unknowingly delivered her eulogy through her music. He referenced her song No More Rain, highlighting the lyrics about finding peace and no longer shedding tears.
