MSNBC has reportedly canceled Joy Reid's show amid a "major programming restructure" at the network, The Guardian has reported.
Speaking with The New York Times, sources close to the network revealed that the longtime anchor's 7 pm show, The ReidOut, is being axed amid a lineup shuffle spearheaded by the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler.
Joy Reid and her husband, Jason have been married for over two decades. They reportedly tied the knot in 1977, and while they tend to keep their private life out of the public eye, Jason Reid works as a freelance editor at Universal/Peacock Productions. Furthermore, he also serves as the co-founder and film editor of a production company, ImageLab Media Group, which set up shop in 2005.
Everything we know about Joy Reid's departure from MSNBC:
The decision to axe Joy Reid's show comes amid the network's preparation for a new era of political coverage under President Trump's second stint in office. The ReidOut has been in place for the last five years, though the final episode is expected to come out this week.
The 7 p.m. slot will now be replaced with a program featuring co-hosts Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders Townsend, a report from The New York Post reveals. The three currently host The Weekend, which goes on air every Saturday and Sunday morning.
The Independent has reported that according to media journalist Oliver Darcy, Reid and her staff found out they were losing their jobs during a short-notice half-hour meeting. Employees were reportedly frustrated to learn about the show getting axed online as opposed to their leaders.
The liberal commentator has been with the company since 2014, and she is infamous for being a vocal critic of Trump.
At the time of writing, MSNBC has yet to comment on its decision, though the move comes a month after the network's former president, Rashida Jones, resigned from the post after nearly four years. It was then that Kutler, who served as the senior vice president for content strategy, stepped in.
The network has also decided to replace Alex Wagner's evening spot, though she is expected to stay on with the company as a contributor. In the wake of the news breaking out on X, scores are thanking Reid for her work, including Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison:
Grateful for Joy Reid & her willingness to always provide a forum for voices and candidates often ignored by mainstream media,” he wrote on X. “Can you name another show or host who brought together 5 Black candidates running for the US Senate?!”
At the time of writing, Joy Reid has yet to comment on the situation.
