Vic Mensa recalled the time he "got into it with the Italian mob," which cost him a whopping $10,000 to secure his safety.

The Chicago rapper took to Instagram on Sunday, March 23, to narrate the tale of his altercation with the mob and how it culminated in him becoming sober. He began by saying he was drunk at a club one night when his manager called him for help after getting into an altercation.

However, things quickly began spiraling downward, and eventually, he had to negotiate a deal that saw him pay them 10 grand and perform at the club the next day for them to leave him alone. Scroll down to read the full story.

In the video, Vic Mensa can be heard saying:

“The next thing I see is my mans down in the crowd in a sea of strangers going like this, ‘Vic! So I start going down there,” he called. “He like, ‘G, they just choked me and dragged me out the club! And they not even security!’ I’m like, ‘Who? Who did this to you?’”

Moments after his friend identified the assailant, who was standing not too far from them, Vic Mensa continued:

“I’m a nut so I already had bottle of Ace of Spades in my hand. Boom! I crashed his a**. Immediately, this sh*t turned into a melee. I told you, I only got one friend in the building. Now this sh*t is not going well. I’m getting punched up and down like cartoon fists in a cloud. I’m getting wrestled by eight n-ggas at one time, no Diddy [laughs]."

He went on to reveal that the next thing he knew, he was "getting choked out the club. I’m dolo in the alley. I see a black Suburban truck." He initially thought the car was "sent by God to save" him, though he quickly realized it was not his car "at all." He also tried to open the door, only to find it locked.

He fled for his safety and made it back to his hotel room before he learned that the men he was fighting belonged to an Italian mob:

“My mans called me, who I didn’t even know was in that city at that time. He was like, ‘Man, that was the Italian mob. They finna kill you!’ I couldn’t breathe right again,” he joked, imitating an asthma attack.

The Roc Nation MC divulged that he called up his “big homie” in Chicago to help him out and negotiate a deal for his safety in exchange. The following day, he made it to his scheduled appearance at the club, but with extra security.

“Long story short, I get the bread, I pay the mob,” he continued. “Oh yeah, but that’s another one of the reasons why I don’t drink.”

Vic Mensa is four years sober as of 2025. He celebrated two years of sobriety back in 2023, posting on Instagram at the time that he had since become the “best version” of himself.
