The Hurun Rich List named Elon Musk as the richest person in the world in 2025. Musk has been claiming the number one spot on this list for four years since 2022, after dethroning Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos. Tesla's CEO has been increasing his net worth by billions each year.

From $320 billion the first time he was announced as the richest man in the world, Musk has obtained a net worth of $420 billion in 2025. According to the Hurun Research report,

"Musk has retained his position as the wealthiest person in the world for the fourth time in five years, becoming the first individual to surpass the $400 billion threshold" the report states.

Despite all the wealth Musk has acquired to make it to the top of Hurun's list, he lost about $100 billion during the wealth cut-off that was on January 25, 2025.

Where does Elon Musk's wealth come from?

You may wonder how someone amasses a net worth of $420 billion. It helps if you are the owner of different prominent companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter).

According to the Hurun report, the majority of the spike in Musk's finances comes from his stake in Tesla. In recent years, the electric car company has developed and grown considerably in the high-tech sectors, which include AI and space exploration.

Analysts have also attributed Elon Musk's surge in wealth to the "Trump effect". This refers to the growth of American billionaire wealth ever since Trump took back the reins as President of the United States. The "Trump effect" was also working for other billionaires such as Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jensen Huang.
