Dwayne Johnson is mourning the demise of his beloved pet dog, Hobbs.
The 52-year-old actor took to Instagram on Tuesday, February 25, to reveal that his pet had passed away. In a carousel of photos and videos, the two can be seen spending time together over the years.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the French bulldog pup became a part of The Rock's family back in 2015, alongside another French Bulldog puppy named Brutus. However, that same year, he passed away after consuming a poisonous mushroom.
Dwayne Johnson's relationship with his pet dog explored as the actor once had him feature as a guest star in his Fast and Furious movie
In his lengthy statement on Instagram, Dwayne Johnson reflected on his relationship with his late pet:
“RIP 💔 Hobbs I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family and we’re so grateful he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night,” his caption read.
He continued:
“Lately, there’s been a lot that’s too big to talk about. Lonesome, lonely, heard it’s all the same.”
He went on, expressing hope that his late pet's spirit would one day come back to visit him:
“One of my favorite songs felt appropriate here, as I wonder what’s going on his new world, because I know what it’s like in mine,” Johnson added. “Not sure how spirits work but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again. 🥃💔.”
Speaking with GQ for his cover shoot back in 2019, Dwayne Johnson revealed that his furry friend was named after his character in Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw. Furthermore, he also made a cameo appearance in the movie:
"Ladies and gents, the gremlin known as HOBBS. As producer of @hobbsandshaw, I thought it was the right thing to do to actually cast my French bulldog in our movie. Nepotism shmepotism 😉💁🏽♂️"
He went on, reflecting on the loss of Brutus:
"Three years ago we brought puppy Hobbs and his baby brother, Brutus home to become our ohana. Sadly, we lost puppy Brutus a few months later. Broke our hearts, but this little beast Hobbs goes on to live his best life daily and I’m quite proud of his performance in our movie. Plus, he dropped a steaming 3 curler 💩 right in the middle of the set 😂🤦🏽♂️ The biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen and one bad ass sumbitch."
In the first slide, Dwayne Johnson can be seen lying down on the ground alongside his dog, while in the second, a black and white photo depicts the actor receiving kisses from Hobbs. Another clip shows the pet playfully nibbling on the Moana actor's hand, while one includes a Polaroid photo of the late pet.
