Amid the legal battle between Drake and Universal Music Records, Gordo, one of his associates, dropped a cryptic message online. Gordo, who has production credits on some of Drake’s musical projects, including recently released, $ome $exy $ones 4 U, took to X to share a message:

"Everything will soon come to light. And we are not accepting apologies."

Gordo didn’t clarify what the message meant or who it was aimed at but eagle-eyed observers have found the timing of the tweet too convenient to be a coincidence. Just days before Gordo’s tweet, Drake made a shoutout to all those who had supported him through his feud with Kendrick Lamar and his legal battles with UMG at his concert in Australia:

"[I want to thank] my collaborators, all my producers, all the other artists that I worked with," You know, the ones that didn’t turn p**sy. I mean the ones that’s still real. The real ones."

Drake and Gordo's relationship explored

Drake and Gordo have maintained an almost 14-year friendship. In an interview with Complex on October 6, 2023, Gordo described his friendship with the Canadian rapper as one that transcended beyond music:

“We've been friends for years. It was never about music. We were just homies. We have the same brain. We always say that if we were in high school, we would have been best friends.”

Gordo has contributed to several of the rapper’s albums including Honestly, Nevermind, For All the Dogs, and $$$4U. Drake, in turn, has lent his vocals to the producer’s most recent solo album, Diamante. Gordo also made a remix of Drake’s Pimmie’s Interlude from the $$$4U album. Overall, the duo have a storied history and Gordo has remained a member of the 6 God’s friendship circle for a while now.

Drake’s case against Universal Music Group in summary

The Canadian rapper’s feud with Kendrick Lamar in 2024 shook the music industry and brought some major lawsuits. Drake filed a lawsuit against his record label, UMG, on January 15, 2025, accusing it of helping to spread a “false and malicious” narrative about him by promoting Lamar’s hit song, Not Like Us. Drake is signed under Republic Records while Kendrick Lamar is signed to Interscope Records —both under UMG.

UMG replied to Drake’s lawsuit stating that the rapper’s claims were “untrue” and that the music company would never intentionally harm its clients.

In late February 2025, UMG applied for a postponement of the pre-trial conference scheduled for April 2, 2025. Drake’s attorney condemned the move, describing it as an attempt to delay the legal process.
