Rapper Boosie Badazz is reportedly under fire after he tried to help Caleb Wilson’s family. For context, Wilson was a student at Southern University who died as a result of hazing in February 2025. According to HotNewHipHop, the rapper wanted to honor Caleb’s memory by establishing a scholarship in his name.
He brought up the scholarship during his sixth annual Boosie Bash Festival, an event he had previously announced. The festival took place just a week before Caleb’s death, and his parents believed Boosie used their son’s name for publicity and financial gain. They reportedly claimed they were never informed about the scholarship.
On March 25, 205, Boosie Badazz shared an X post saying he has been trying to reach the family to give them $20,000 but hasn't been able to get in contact. He also claimed that neither the university nor anyone else has helped facilitate communication.
He criticized the way he was being treated and called on Attorney General Liz Murrill to reach out to him. The rapper wrote:
“INSTEAD OF TRYNG TO BRING ME DOWN N TAKE FROM ME MAYBE YALL SHOULD ALLOW ME TO BE PUT N POSITIONS TO MAKE A CHANGE N THE CITY. IVE HEARD THAT THIS ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS A GRUDGE AGAINST RAPPERS. IF THAT IS THE CASE, U NEED TO SIT-DOWN WITH ME N TALK.”
Boosie Badazz also highlighted the positive impact of his events in the city, emphasizing that his festival brought excitement and revenue without any violence for six consecutive years.
Boosie Badazz implied that he wouldn’t capitalize on someone’s death
In his X post, Boosie Badazz emphasized that he was more than just a rapper. He was frustrated over feeling held back in his home state, saying it was one of the reasons he chose to leave. Despite this, he made it clear that he would continue pushing forward.
Additionally, during a recent appearance on a local news station, he shared that Caleb’s death was a tragic loss, and since he played a role in bringing the event to Baton Rouge, he felt a sense of responsibility to give back and make things right. On March 24, 2025, Boosie Badazz posted on X saying:
“ITS SAD FOR THIS LAWYERn FAMILY TO SAY I PROMOTED MY EVENT OFF SOMEONES PASSING!! MY EVENT WAS PROMOTED ON EVENTBRITE SINCE NOV 14 .THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED A WEEK BEFORE MY EVENT WAS TO TAKE PLACE!! HOW THE F*CK CAN I CAPITALIZE OFF SOMEONE DEATH FOR A CONCERT.”THAT AINT ME.”
In his post, Boosie Badazz argued that a student’s death would not benefit a concert but rather harm it. He claimed he was asked to assist with the situation and was working on it once he returned home.
However, he felt disrespected by the family’s decision to take legal action against someone who was only trying to help. Calling it a betrayal and a money grab, he expressed frustration and said he was done with Baton Rouge.
