"So disrespectful to her husband": Internet reacts to Toya Johnson saying she divorced Lil Wayne because she "deserved better" 

Toya Johnson was a guest on Carlos King’s podcast, Reality With The King, on March 19, 2024, and the Internet personality revealed some details about her relationship with rapper Lil Wayne that caused several raised eyebrows. She talked about family dynamics, dating, her experience on the Toya and Reginae show, and more.

The topic of her former relationship with rapper L Wayne also came up. King asked how the relationship with the rapper had come to an end. Johnson had the following to say:

“When you are young, you take a lot, you know. But at a certain point, you wake up, and you be like, I deserve better. I could have still today been in that situation & can be if I wanted to,”

The Shade Room on Instagram shared the clip from the interview, and several users expressed that she made suggestive comments in her response to the question posed by the interviewer.

Toya Johnson and Lil Wayne’s relationship timeline explored

Lil Wayne and Toya Johnson met each other in 1997. Johnson described their first meeting in a convenience store:

"Met him for the first time right after my middle school talent show. At the time, everyone called him "Dream". He and His group had performed, and after the show, me and some of my friends were in a nearby convenience store getting some snacks."

Johnson added that she discovered Wayne’s player ways in the early stages of their relationship as he was allegedly seeing other girls while dating her. In 1998, the Internet personality became pregnant with Wayne’s baby, and she had to move into the rapper’s mom’s house.

She gave birth to their daughter, Reginae on November 29, 1999. Johnson claimed that after she had the baby, her relationship with the rapper became strained as he only ever sent them money and barely visited. In a bid to get his attention, Toya reportedly sued for child support. She stated that the rapper was unhappy with that move:

"I'll never forget the hurt in Wayne's Voice after he got the papers. He was like "Really Toya...It's like that, Didn't I just send you more than I promised. Did You really feel like you had to do me like this?"

The duo broke up in 1999, reunited in 2000, and broke up again. They rekindled their relationship and married on February 14, 2004. They divorced in 2006 because Toya reportedly couldn't keep up with the rapper's fast-paced lifestyle and continuous absence from the home.

Toya got married to her present husband Robert Rushing in 2012.
