South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun sat down for a press conference on March 31, 2025, where he talked about his relationship with Kim Sae-ron, who died around mid-February 2025. He denied claims that he dated the actress when she was underage. The press conference was held in his native language.
Becoming emotional during his statement, he insisted he could not accept untrue accusations. Kim shared that although they were in a relationship for about a year, it was not before she reached the legal age. He also dismissed a recent YouTube exposé, stating that the testimonies and evidence were false.
According to Reuters, he said:
“I did not date the deceased when she was a minor. And it is also not true that the deceased made a tragic choice because of me turning a blind eye.”
Kim Soo-hyun called out the KakaoTalk messages as manipulated. He argued that accusations of inappropriate behavior were based on misleading evidence, particularly messages from 2016. However, he said those exchanges from 2016 and 2018 involved many others. Moreover, he submitted his chats from the period for verification.
Kim expressed concern over further false accusations and expressed his determination to prove the truth. As understood through translation, he added:
“Whenever there was a situation and the choice for Kim Soo-hyun as a human being and Kim Soo-hyun as a celebrity came up, I think I always chose in favour of the celebrity.”

Kim Soo-hyun expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career, acknowledging that he started with little but now has much to protect. He admitted that people might have difficulty believing his side of the story regarding his relationship with Kim Sae-ron but asked for a fair chance to be heard.
Reflecting on the situation, he shared his regrets about not being more transparent earlier, saying he had often considered speaking out to put an end to the ongoing controversy. Looking back at the time when he shot Queen of Tears, he said:
“When ‘Queen of Tears’ was airing, I had so much to protect as its lead actor. What would have happened if I had admitted to a year-long relationship? What would happen to the actors, the staff who were working overnight, and the production team who had everything staked on that project? What would happen to our agency’s employees?”
Kim Soo-hyun described the present situation as deeply painful, especially as new allegations and evidence surface. He said that every time he or his agency responds, additional testimonies emerge, along with altered photos, videos, and edited chat records presented as proof.
He urged those making the claims to submit all their evidence to authorities for proper legal verification. Soo-hyun said he was worried about damage to his reputation and the impact on those around him. However, he remained firm, stating that he would prove his innocence.
