“Even though the Jackson family isn’t here in court today, I would like to sincerely apologize for my unforgivable actions, although there’s no apology that amounts to the taking of someone’s life," he said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to my family for the pain and embarrassment that they have endured over the last five years, as well as an apology to my community.”

Walker was sentenced after previously accepting a plea deal on February 5. At the time, he declared himself guilty of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of robbery, as reported by AP News.

This Friday in court, Walker also thanked his defense team for helping him "avoid a much more harsh punishment.” As per the Rolling Stone, he also addressed the court on Friday, as he said:

“Today I take responsibility for my dreadful partake in these crimes, and as I begin my road to rehabilitation, I assure you that I will steer clear from negative behavior."

Corey Walker was one of four people cuffed and charged with the murder of Pop Smoke. The rapper was fatally shot at a rented home in Hollywood Hills during a robbery that took place on February 19, 2020. At the time, he was on a four-day trip to California city when he took to Instagram to share images of a gift bag.

However, he inadvertently revealed his address. He was in the shower when the men broke in, struck him down with the pistol, and shot him in the back thrice. The men then robbed his Rolex watch, which they later pawned off for $2,000.

Walker was the only one to be charged as an adult. The other three defendants include a 15-year-old shooter, and they were all charged in juvenile court. They reached separate deals, though Walker was accused of spearheading the crime.

According to XXL Magazine, the oldest teenager pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion robbery in April 2023, while the second was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. As for the third juvenile, he was sent to a post-conviction juvenile housing facility.
