Hunter Schafer criticized the administration
In the video, Hunter Schafer shared that she changed her gender markers as a teenager when she obtained her driver’s license and passport, listing her as female. However, while filming in Barcelona in 2024, her passport was stolen from her car. Since the original was valid until her 30s, she was issued an emergency replacement, a temporary document meant for short-term use.
Upon returning to the U.S., she needed to replace it with a permanent passport. She followed the usual process at the Federal Passport Agency. However, when she received the new document, she was shocked that the gender marker had been changed to male. Voicing her distress, she said:
“Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I am never gonna stop being trans. A letter and a passport can’t change that and f*ck this administration. And I don’t really have an answer on what to do about this but I feel it was important to share. This is real.”
Hunter Schafer clarified that she wasn’t sharing her story to incite fear, seek attention, or gain sympathy but felt it was necessary to shed light on the reality of the situation. She noted that she had never updated her birth certificate, leading her to suspect that passport agencies might now be required to cross-check birth records.
This was the first time she faced such a problem since changing her gender marker nearly a decade earlier. Hunter Schafer expressed concern that this was a direct consequence of the current administration’s policies and feared the gradual tightening of restrictions.
