In a recent conversation with People Magazine, Margo Price reflected on how her sobriety has allowed her to be the best version of herself.
Speaking with the outlet, the Hurtin' (On the Bottle) singer, 41, divulged that she is in "the best headspace of her life" nowadays, adding that she had to make some serious changes to her life to get there:
"I played at Willie [Nelson's] ranch last night. I was there until 12:30 [in the morning]," Price shared, joking, "I was like, 'Okay, if I would've been boozing, it would've been a much rougher morning.' I got up ... two hours sleep and set my alarm at 4:20. That's it. Get up, hit the road and I'm here and ready to give people the best show."
Margo Price added:
"I feel like I'm in the best head space of my life. I feel like my creative juices are functioning on all cylinders and I just feel really happy."
Margo Price reflects on her journey with substance abuse, says she drank because she was "worried about the state of the world"
The Nashville-based country singer-songwriter lost one of her twin sons, Ezra, two weeks after he was born back in 2018. She later reflected on his demise in an interview with People Magazine, noting that the loss culminated “a whole ‘nother period of depression.”
In 2021, Margo Price reflected on her lifestyle in a written interview with GQ magazine. Price penned in her GQ essay,
“During this tumultuous past year, I did the most rebellious thing I’ve ever done in my life: I quit drinking alcohol.”
Margo Price also reflected on why she would frequently turn to alcohol in the past:
“I drank because I was worried about the state of the world, I drank because I was bored, I drank because I missed [my] tour, I drank because I was unemployed, I drank because everyone else drinks. And I drank even though I didn’t really want to.”
Divulging that she didn't attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and instead, figured out her own way of staying sober, she penned:
“As women, we are always saying we are sorry. The only one I feel the need to beg forgiveness from is myself … I don’t identify as an alcoholic, and I have no regrets for the decisions I’ve made in my life. I believe everything happens for a reason. But I also believe that quitting drinking has made parenting and work easier.”
Margo Price now leads a more active lifestyle, saying in an interview with People Magazine that she enjoys trekking great distances, being in nature, fishing, canoeing, and doing all other outdoor activities. She might then go for a cold plunge and sauna. As for what she needs to feel at peace, she told the outlet that "a doobie and sitting around the fire and playing guitar" is perfect.
