A s*xual assault case filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs by a plaintiff identified as Jane Doe was dismissed by the court on March 31, 2025.

According to a report in USA Today, U.S. District Court Judge Lewis J. Liman issued an order noting that Jane Doe could not proceed as an anonymous person and ordered her to re-file her initial complaint using her real name.

"As of today, March 31, 2025, (Doe) has not filed a complaint in her own name, nor has she sought an extension of time to do so," Liman wrote.

The woman was required to file an amended complaint using her real name by March 20, but she did not meet this deadline. Reportedly, she has decided not to pursue the case further, fearing public scrutiny and the “perceived danger.”

Attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed her case, said in a statement to Variety,

"In this particular case, Jane Doe opted not to proceed. There is a lot of fear amongst these plaintiffs. I thus can’t blame her.”
“These are tough cases and they are many times re-traumatizing for those who pursue them. Each case stands on its own merit. This woman chose not to proceed and subject herself to the media circus and the perceived danger she felt. We have to respect that.”

Recent news has brought attention to the original case, which was filed by Jane Doe. What was it about? Let us understand.

What was the case filed by Jane Doe against Sean “Diddy” Combs in October 2024?

According to a report in Rolling Stones, in her lawsuit filed in October 2024, Jane Doe had claimed that Sean “Diddy” Combs s*xually assaulted her during a 1995 party in New York City.

The allegations included an attempt by Combs to sexually assault her, and when she rejected his advances, he physically assaulted her. The case was initiated by Tony Buzbee, who, in January, sought Doe to remain anonymous throughout the proceedings due to the sensitivity of the allegations.

However, the court denied stating the “very gravity of the charges”. It said that,

“Plaintiff has presented no evidence of specific and concrete harm from disclosure of her identity and the severe prejudice to Defendants from keeping that identity confidential, undermine her claim to proceed anonymously.”

In response to the dismissal of the lawsuit filed by Jane Doe, Combs's legal team issued a statement highlighting the importance of the ruling. They expressed their confidence that similar outcomes would occur for other ongoing cases against the rapper.

"Today a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed against Mr. Combs by Texas attorney Anthony Buzbee and his local counsel Antigone Curis on behalf of an anonymized plaintiff. This is now the second case brought by these attorneys against Mr. Combs that has been dismissed in its entirety,"

Combs' attorneys said in a statement. "It will not be the last." The legal team said, according to a report in USA Today.

The latest update follows last week’s decision, in which a judge dismissed five charges against Combs in a separate $30 million s*xual assault lawsuit from former producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones.
