On March 30, 2024, South Korean media outlet Naver reported on Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, GOLDMEDALIST, announcing a press conference to address the actor’s relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron. The press conference has been scheduled for March 31 at 4:30 PM KST.

As stated by GOLDMEDALIST, the press meet won’t include any question-and-answer round for the media. Soo-hyun will reportedly arrive with his legal representative and deliver a prepared statement. The agency released a statement saying:

"First, we deeply apologize for the concern caused by recent events. We've arranged this meeting to speak directly with the press and clarify our position,” GOLD MEDALIST stated.

The news of Soo-hyun’s upcoming press interaction soon went viral, as internet users are looking forward to the actor's statement on the matter.

More about the Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron controversy

The claims that Kim Sae-ron had an affair with Kim Soo-hyun, an actor famous for Queen of Tears and other dramas, starting when she was a minor, are at the core of the controversy.

The former child actress Kim Sae-ron took her own life on February 16, 2025, which happened to be Kim Soo-hyun's birthday. Her career took a hit following a DUI offense in 2022. The accusations surfaced soon after the actress passed away, damaging Soo-hyun's reputation.

In March 2025, the Garosero Research Institute YouTube channel shared allegations made by Kim Sae-ron's aunt. The reports indicated that Kim Soo-hyun started dating Sae-ron in 2015, when she was 15, and that their relationship lasted for six years.

After Sae-ron's DUI, the aunt claimed, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, GOLD MEDALIST, and Sae-ron severed ties, with Kim later seeking 700 million KRW (about $483,000) in restitution for damages they had covered. According to Sae-ron's family members, she died as a result of financial distress.

Despite denying any underage dating, GOLD MEDALIST acknowledged that Sae-ron and Soo-hyun were in a relationship from mid-2019 to late 2020, when Sae-ron reached the legal age of adulthood in South Korea (which is 19).

The debt request was a procedural process, not coercion, according to the agency, which also stated that they had helped Sae-ron after the DUI (driving under the influence) by paying her fines of 700 million KRW.

Allegations of grooming were further fueled when Sae-ron's family and the Garosero channel disclosed additional evidence, such as 2016 KakaoTalk texts in which Soo-hyun professed affection.

In addition to suing the family and Garosero Research Institute for defamation and the distribution of private photos—including one purportedly showing Soo-hyun semi-naked at Sae-ron's home—GOLD MEDALIST also demanded an apology.

Brands like Prada, DINTO, Jo Malone, and more have cut ties with Soo-hyun due to public outcry. Even the release of his upcoming Disney+ show Knock Off has been suspended as of now.
