Kelly Clarkson’s musical director, Jason Halbert, might have a soft spot for her entire discography, but when it comes to one of her legendary hits, he’s got a confession that will leave anyone open-mouthed.

In the recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Halbert joined guest-host Andy Cohen and, in a lighthearted moment, was playfully asked:

“So Jason, I’ll give you $20 if you tell me your least favorite Kelly Clarkson song.”

Covering his face with his hands, Halbert’s answer definitely raised eyebrows.

“Unpopular opinion: 'Breakaway.'"

Cue Cohen, stunned, immediately singing, “Make a wish,” earning a laugh from Halbert and anyone within earshot.

Released in 2004, "Breakaway" became an anthem that catapulted Clarkson’s career, and it still holds a place in fans’ hearts. It reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is considered her defining hit.

The track also surged to stardom when it became the official soundtrack of the Anne Hathaway-led The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which premiered in the same year.

Still, fans aren’t likely to stop loving the timeless coming-of-age anthem anytime soon, but we can’t help but imagine Clarkson and Halbert’s reaction when the song plays on the stereo!

Kelly Clarkson returns to the show after mysterious hiatus that left fans worried

The hot take from Jason Halbert comes after Kelly Clarkson’s recent unexplained nonattendance from The Kelly Clarkson Show, which left fans both puzzled and concerned.

Due to her absence, the program’s avid viewers speculated about her well-being as she was a no-show beginning in March, with hosts Simu Liu, Molly Sims, and Roy Wood Jr. filling in for her as she took her hiatus.

On March 18, Clarkson finally made her comeback without disclosing her reason for absence. Two days later, the "Since U Been Gone" songstress reflected on the show’s 1000th episode, saying:

“Welcome to The Kelly Clarkson Show and our 1,000th episode.”

She then reflected on the show’s journey since its 2019 debut.

“Our show premiered on September 9th, 2019, with the help of some great friends. Over the next five and a half years, we have made 999 episodes. I cannot believe today marks the 1,000th. It’s crazy.”

The mom-of-two took a moment to look back on the program’s rollercoaster ride, both personally and professionally.

“We have met some hugely talented people, tons of big stars and inspiring everyday heroes. We created a community and supported each other through lots of ups and downs, and a lot of ups and downs personally as well. We went through a pandemic together.”

She also gave fans a peek into her favorite moments from the show’s history.

“We dove into stories behind your favorite songs, my favorite songs. We’ve gone big for Halloween, those have been some of my favorite episodes. And even bigger for Christmas.”

Wrapping up her speech, Clarkson gave credit where credit was due.

“For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together.”
