Kanye West's Sunday Service was always guaranteed to get people hungry for conversation, combining music, religion, and spectacle. But news of its return has set tongues wagging once again. Some fans are eager for the return of this musical worship experience, but others are more interested in the problematic context it is coming back into. Have a look at the logo below.

Sunday Service returns on March 16, 2025

Kanye West formally announced the return of Sunday Service, which is set to take place on March 16, 2025. The religious event, which started in January 2019, initially became famous for gospel choir performances and spiritual ambiance. The service was, however, suspended at the beginning of 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sunday Service return has been met with a divided response. Some fans view it as an opportunity for West to return to his creative and spiritual endeavors. Others are not so sure, given the controversy that has surrounded his public life in recent years.

Sunday Service's past and its evolution

The original Sunday Service featured grand choir performances, creative instrumentation, and visiting appearances from entertainment and music professionals. It tended to be arranged in serene areas outdoors or premier venues. The Sunday Service further contributed to promoting West's 2019 album, Jesus Is King, having a robust impact on gospel production.

Over the years, the Sunday Service brand has changed. There have been reports that the logo was redesigned in March 2025 to look like the Schutzstaffel (SS) flag, raising additional controversy.

Trademark issues and legal challenges

In 2019, Kanye West tried to trademark the phrase "Sunday Service" for merchandise usage. The request was rejected since the phrase had already been registered by another entity. Regardless, West still applied the branding on his events as well as merchandise lines.

His efforts to monetize Sunday Service through merchandise and clothing have been received with criticism from religious groups and legal experts. Most perceive the venture as a combination of commerce and religion, diluting the distinction between religious congregations and business ventures.

Public and industry reactions

The response to the return of Sunday Service has been polarizing. While some long-time supporters are embracing its revival, others are questioning the motives of why it is being revived. West's incendiary comments and associations have created a challenge in separating the spiritual and artistic elements of the service from his behavior for some.

Sunday Service was once a platform where West could use his musical talent in a religious context. Nevertheless, the latest developments indicate that the revival of the event will be overshadowed by continuous controversies.

Although Sunday Service was previously lauded for its innovative blending of music and religion, its most recent resurgence takes place within an atmosphere of intense public glare. Whether or not the event will attract its former popularity or become increasingly mired in controversy is yet to be known.
