MSNBC is undergoing a lineup change, and one of the relatively biggest changes is the cancellation of The ReidOut, the evening news show which is hosted by Joy Reid.

After a five-year run, the show will air its final episode on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET. The cancellation comes as part of a revamp initiated by MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler. She took over the network’s leadership earlier this month.

Reid confirmed the show’s end on social media. She expressed gratitude for her team and audience. Per Delaware Online, in her message, she wrote,

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets. So very proud of The ReidOut team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters and friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time!"

In the official Instagram post, Joy Reid captioned:

"See you Monday night at 7pm ET. Love you #reiders fam! (And I’m overrun with text messages but will return them all, I promise!) ❤️🫶🏿"

Enthusiasts weighed in on the comment section of the post to share their thoughts. Below are what some netizens had to comment:

"Love you, Joy. Where ever you are, I will follow. Big mistake by MSNBC. Huge.", declared an Instagram user.
"One of the best journalists who reports the truth ❤️ msnbc is wrong for this", added another.
"The only one on MSNBC who wasn’t afraid to say it how it really is. Please continue to call the orange man out and his supporters. We need you!", remarked a third.
"Tomorrow at 7pm will be the highest rating the network will receive to date.", predicted a fourth.

Why was Joy Reid’s The ReidOut canceled?

The ReidOut is reportedly a casualty of MSNBC’s programming changes. Kutler, who replaced former network president Rashida Jones in early February, has been tasked with refreshing MSNBC’s lineup to boost ratings and reshape its prime-time content.

Per AP News, MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler shared in a statement,

"Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years. Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series."

Reid’s hour-long show aired at 7 p.m. It mainly focused on political news, interviews, and more. While it was a significant part of MSNBC’s lineup, the network is now moving toward a new format.

Replacing The ReidOut will be a panel show featuring MSNBC’s weekend hosts: Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. The trio currently co-hosts The Weekend, a political talk show that airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Moreover, MSNBC is also reportedly considering adding new voices to its lineup. Potential names include Eugene Daniels, a co-author of Politico’s Playbook newsletter, and Melissa Murray, a law professor at NYU.
