Loki and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors is opening up about the se*ual assault he was subjected to beginning at the age of 9.
Jonathan Majors, who was found guilty of one count of reckless assault in the third degree and charged with harassment as a violation in December 2023, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter this week about the trauma he had to deal with during therapy and a domestic violence program he was ordered to attend.
In his first interview since his sentencing in April 2024, Jonathan Majors revealed that he experienced
"sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was 9."
Majors also added that his father had left when he was 8 years old and continued by saying,
“From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was f---ed up.”
He further disclosed that he opened up about his trauma to his mother, with whom he shares a close bond, adding that she has since apologized for not being there for him:
"I’m like, ‘It’s not even an issue, mom. I just want you to know,' " he said of their conversation. "And now we can all get busy and continue to connect and grow and learn from it, because it’s something that was in our family.”
Jonathan Majors reflects on the moment he found out Marvel fired him: Read more
The Creed III actor's career took a hit back in December 2023 when he got into a physical altercation with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. She accused him of leaving her with injuries that prompted a trip to the hospital with minor injuries.
While he has maintained his innocence, he was found guilty and was ordered to undergo a 52-week domestic violence intervention program. Speaking with the outlet, he reflected on how working through his trauma has helped him:
"There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself,” he said. “Am I going to fall into that narrative of falling apart, of self-destruction? Have a struggle, blame the world. Have a struggle, hate yourself. Have a struggle, deny everything,” he said. “None of those narratives is beneficial.”
Instead, he says he plans to “have a struggle, learn, metabolize, grow.” As for Marvel cutting all ties with him in the wake of his conviction, he reflected on the moment he learned the news:
"He goes, 'I’m just gonna tell you now,'" Majors recalled. "'That way you’re not surprised, and you can start processing it. They fired you. Marvel fired you.'" "There were days when it was like, 'Is this real?'" he said of the weeks that followed. "It’s a heartbreak like I’ve never experienced and it just compounded and compounded."
Jonathan Majors' interview comes ahead of the release of his first film since his criminal trial, titled Magazine Dreams. The film is slated to hit the theatres on March 21.
