MrBeast is copping flak for drawing parallels between a top-tier YouTuber and a top-tier athlete.
Speaking on Dexerto's Clickbaited show, the most-subscribed YouTuber, legally known as Jimmy Donaldson, reflected on how he had to spend five months straight shooting content for Beast Games, his Amazon show. According to him, it was comparable to an athlete in training.
However, the internet has since begun responding with an entire gamut of reactions, ranging from praise for speaking up to dissent. Check out what one user penned on X, for instance:
"I used to play a lot of softball, its not the same. one just creates, edits and uploads videos while the other goes through intense training and excersise to be a top tier athlete. They might make the same amount of money but it’s still physically not the same."
Scores online echoed the sentiments, while others concurred with the media personality:
"Big fan but I don’t think they’re similar," someone stated on X.
"I don't think Mr Beast knows anything about sports to end up saying this," another noted.
"I would actually argue it's harder than being a top tier athlete. Top tier athletes take seasons off, sure they still train but they need to let their body rest to be at optimal performance. A top performing YouTuber is doing everything, everyday. Unless they hired an entire team of people," one more chimed in.
"PEOPLE HATE ON BEAST BUT VALID," someone else said in favor.
The comments section was riddled with varied opinions:
"in my opinion He’s top-tier in comparison to a tv host or a Tv Personality rather than being a top athlete," someone penned.
"I don't see eye to eye with him but I mean he's got a point to be fair..," another opined.
"Depends. Only people who monopolise YouTube like MrBeast can make this claim. Most YouTubers only give it 10% and claim to give it their all. People like MrBeast have turned YouTube into their own industry," yet another chimed in.
"takes more brain power more than anything. ppl prob won’t relate tho because they don’t know how hard it is to grow at his size," an X user claimed.
Users were visibly divided, leaving the prevailing sentiment unclear.

On the show, MrBeast reflected on his schedule while filming for Beast Games:
“It was brutal, because the thing is, we were consistently uploading on YouTube even though we filmed Beast Games. I filmed every day for like 60 days, so two months leading up to it, I was just doing main channel videos,” he said. “And then Beast Games, we filmed 15 hours a day, every day for 45 days straight.”
MrBeast also revealed that by the time Beast Games was done, they had gone through their roster of videos, prompting him to start shooting once again without taking a break. He also reflected on how that period took a toll on him and his relationship:
“It takes a toll on everything. It’s weird. Being a top-tier YouTuber, you can almost compare it to like, it’s a weird comparison, I know some people are going to clip this, but it’s almost like being a top-tier athlete,” he remarked.
He elucidated his comparison, noting that YouTubers “always have to be on point” and that it's also something they have to “wake up and earn every single day.”
“There are tens of millions of people who want to be YouTubers. There are millions of YouTubers that do it full-time as a career. There are probably 20, 30, 50 million people who want to be me. Who want to be the greatest YouTuber in the world. There are millions who obsess every day over how they can take my spot and dethrone me. That’s their dream in life. If you want to stay on top, you gotta make a lot of sacrifices," he said.
Beast Games is a one-season show that came out on Amazon Prime just last year. It was created by MrBeast himself, alongside Tyler Conklin, Sean Klitzner, and Mack Hopkins.
