Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is reportedly suing singer Lana Del Rey for $1 million over a SKIMS advertisement, Pinkvilla reports.
In SKIMS' 2024 Valentine's Day campaign, Lana Del Rey was featured in a vintage-style photoshoot as she promoted the brand's shapewear, reports suggest. However, things went wrong when the singer allegedly failed to include the "#ad" or "paid partnership" tags in her Instagram and TikTok posts.
This apparent violation of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines could have serious consequences, and Kim Kardashian's legal team is now reportedly pushing for damages.
More on Kim Kardashian and Lana Del Rey
Kim Kardashian is best known for her rise to fame through Keeping Up with the Kardashians. SKIMS is arguably one of her most successful business ventures. The shapewear brand was launched in 2019 and has gained notable attention from enthusiasts and fans. The brand frequently collaborates with celebrities and influencers to expand its reach.
On the other hand, Lana Del Rey is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, beloved for her melancholic music. The collaboration between SKIMS and Del Rey gained notable traction on social media in 2024.
The issue of the reported lawsuit allegedly stems from Lana Del Rey's promotional posts for SKIMS. While she did tag the brand and share campaign images, she allegedly did not include clear disclosure markers such as "#ad" or "paid partnership."
The FTC requires influencers and celebrities to disclose paid partnerships to avoid misleading consumers. The National Advertising Division (NAD) has also been reviewing SKIMS' marketing practices, reports suggest, which may add further scrutiny to the situation.
However, it should be noted that no official sources from the involved celebrities' teams have confirmed that a lawsuit has been filed. Reports claim that the matter was first posted by Pop Tingz, which made an X (formerly Twitter) post that quickly went viral, claiming Kim Kardashian was taking legal action against Lana Del Rey.
On the other hand, the NAD has been investigating SKIMS' advertising practices. However, this does not necessarily mean the reality TV star is suing Lana Del Rey. The singer was reportedly asked to modify her posts to include proper advertisement disclosures.
As of now, reports suggest that neither Kim Kardashian, Lana Del Rey, nor SKIMS has publicly addressed the lawsuit allegations.
