Reality TV star Rick Harrison sat down for an interview to discuss the challenges he has faced over the past year since his son's passing. In an emotional conversation on In depth with Graham Bensinger, he opens up about how his son's death profoundly affected his life. He says:

"I think about him every day"

Adam Harrison was one of the two sons born to Rick Harrison and his first wife Kim Harrison. He overdosed last year after years of struggling with addiction. His death was confirmed by the family through their representative, Laura Herlovich. The family also issued a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which read:

"Our family is extremely saddened by the death of Adam. We ask for privacy as we grieve his loss,"

On the one-year anniversary of Adam Harrison's passing, Rick Harrison speaks out about how Adam had experienced several relapses over the years.

He said:

"In his twenties, he had drug problems. I mean, God, I put him in rehab so many times and every time he'd be doing great, and then he would just fall back. I mean, you've heard the same story from a million people, and it got really, really bad, and apparently it wasn't heroin he got — he ended up getting some Fentanyl. It killed him.”

Over the past year, the "Pawn Stars" host has shared pictures of his son on his Instagram.

In the interview, Rick Harrison shares that he still questions whether he could have helped Adam if he had done things differently. He says:

"I mean, I think I did everything right. You just sit in your head, ‘What if I did this? What if I did this?’ You know what I mean? What if I just grabbed him, f**king locked him in the back of my truck, drove him to Oregon and put him over to where he couldn't get [drugs]? I mean, you have a hundred things go through your mind. There is nothing worse than losing a kid.”

He further shared that, in a way, he gave up on life after the tragedy:

The thing is, when you lose a kid, you second guess f**king everything. It's like, ‘Could I have done this? Could I have done this? Could I have done this? Could I have done this?’ And it's like it goes through your brain constantly. There's not a day I don't [think] about him.”

Harrison also admitted that, at that time, he did not know how to handle his son's addiction. He adds that every child faces different challenges, and there is no set manual for dealing with them.

"It's hard. There’s no instruction book with kids. They're all different models.”

Shortly after his son's passing, he shared a picture of the father-son duo.

In the caption, he wrote:

"You will always be in my heart! Love you Adam.💔"

In the interview, he also recalls a time when Adam broke into his house, which prompted Harrison to call the police, believing it would set him on the right path.

“I figured maybe if we put him in jail for two months it’ll clean him out, but he just went straight back on it. You try to give him tough love but, God, you just never see the OD coming. You want to give them tough love and everything but I never thought that would happen.”

Rick Harrison also mentions that the tragedy has taught him to cherish his loved ones and find fulfillment in their presence.

"[You have to] appreciate what you got, because it's not you're not always going to have it. I spend as much time with my kids as I can. I talk to all my kids on the phone almost every day. I love my kids, love my grandkids. You enjoy life. I mean, I literally know guys that’ve got 10 times as much money as me, and I do all right, that are miserable.”

He further added:

"It is easy to enjoy life. It really is. Just don't be around the people that are miserable and just enjoy life with your family and your friends and everything. It's really it's not that hard to be happy.”

According to People Magazine, Adam Harrison never appeared on the popular reality show that starred his father and younger brother, Corey Harrison, but he did work at their family-run business for a while.
