Actress and author Tori Spelling came under online scrutiny after she recently shared an Instagram story showing her seven-year-old son Beau giving her a massage. In a recent episode of the misSPELLING podcast, she clarified the background of the post.
Spelling posted what she believed was an adorable gesture of Beau. She explained that he wanted to earn some money for an allowance, and she saw this as a good way for him to start. She joked that it was better than doing chores and seemed like a solid plan.
Tori Spelling then shared that she had taken her son with her to a massage parlor, where he asked if he could help with her back. The massage therapist snapped a photo of him playfully pretending to give her a massage.
However, she was surprised by how quickly the story was misinterpreted and spread in the media. A friend immediately messaged her, warning that it might not be well received.
She responded lightheartedly, joking that her son didn’t start in the right spot. However, her friend predicted that people would overreact, which turned out to be true. Tori Spelling said:
“I said, 'Why? It's a cute photo. Everyone knows it's not real. Clearly, we are not at home. I'm not making him do chores.’ Clearly, I'm at a massage parlor.”
Tori Spelling compared the situation with comedians
Tori Spelling also discussed the situation with a fellow mother, who reassured her that the post seemed normal. She found it interesting that comedians could share almost anything on social media without backlash, as people assume they are joking.
However, when an actor posts something, it is often taken seriously, leading to harsh criticism. She expressed frustration over being judged as a bad parent based on a simple photo.
A friend tried to lighten the situation by pointing out that at least she was making headlines. However, Tori Spelling admitted that she already struggles with mom guilt and doesn’t need additional negativity from strangers online, especially accusations that she was forcing her child to give her a massage.
According to People magazine, Spelling talked about her close bond with her son Beau. She shared that she hardly even had privacy in the bathroom as he follows her around everywhere.
She acknowledged that it might be a sign of co-dependency but accepted it without concern.
Tori Spelling also revealed that she has become more relaxed with parenting her youngest, even dressing him in his school clothes the night before to make mornings easier. She laughed about convincing him that this routine was a fun idea.
