JD Vance, the Vice President of the United States, shared an X post related to the recent passing of Pope Francis. Vance met the Pope on Easter Sunday, a day before Pope Francis' demise. On his post, Vance wrote:

"I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him. I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful. May God rest his soul."

Pope Francis and JD Vance met after the pontiff gave a sermon inviting political leaders to lend a helping hand to the vulnerable populations.

JD Vance is a recent Catholic convert and was baptized in 2019. In a short clip posted by ETWN News on their X account, Pope Francis was seen sitting in a wheelchair, and the Vice President sitting opposite him. Vance can be heard saying,

"I know you’ve not been feeling great, but it’s good to see you in better health... Thank you for seeing me," the Vice President of the US conveyed, which was then translated for the Pope.

JD Vance and Pope Francis' meeting is the first get-together between a Vice President and the Pope since 2020. Vance was in Rome for work as well as personal reasons. He had his wife and three children with him. During the meeting, the Pope gifted Vance a Vatican tie, rosary beads for him and his family, and Kinder Joy Easter eggs for each of his three children.

Pope Francis' 12 years of papacy come to an end on April 21, 2025. He was known for his humility and concern for the poor. After a long battle with chronic lung disease, double pneumonia, and other respiratory complications, the Pope passed away after being discharged from Gemelli Hospital, after spending more than a month in the hospital.
