Gwyneth Paltrow is speaking up on the spike in her menopause symptoms she noticed when she increased her alcohol intake amid the devastating LA wildfires.
Speaking on the latest episode of her Goop Podcast, the actress cum entrepreneur revealed that she typically seldom drinks, but during the wildfires, she began turning to alcohol. That's when she began noticing her menopause symptoms worsening:
“There were nights where my anxiety … I would just wake up, I would get crushed with anxiety which I’ve never had in my life,” she told Dr. Mary Claire Have on her episode.

Speaking on her podcast, Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, shared:
“In January when the fires were happening in L.A., I, like, used alcohol for its purpose, of, like, medicating. And normally I don’t drink a lot at all but those two weeks I think I drank every night. And my symptoms were completely out of control.”
The Oscar-winning actress went on, noting that even though she is “in the thick” of menopause and “all over the place,” her symptoms are typically “well under control” if she doesn't drink too often. “It’s the first time I really noticed causation in that way,” she added.
She then revealed that she began feeling anxious before bed, attributing the symptoms to her excessive drinking and menopause. Adding that she's always been a “real sleeper,” Paltrow said she was surprised to find herself struggling as she always believed sleep issues during menopause were only triggered because “you don’t have enough progesterone.”
“I’ve had a particularly bad time with it and hopefully I’m coming out the other side,” she continued. “[But] I would lie in bed and think about every mistake I’ve ever made, every person’s feelings I ever hurt. I would be up for, like, six hours. It was crazy.”
The mother of two continued, revealing that she hopes she is "coming out the other side." Dr. Mary Clare Haver chimed in to explain:
"In perimenopause, we call it the zone of hormonal chaos. It's all over the place. It is completely unpredictable, and our brains hate chaos. It's years for some women,' Haver added.
Amid the LA fires, Gwyneth Paltrow's home, which she shared with her husband, Brad Falchuck, remained relatively unharmed and was later sold for $22 million, the Iron Man actress took to social media to express her woes over having to watch her loved ones lose everything.
“Our beloved Los Angeles… We are in deep grief for so many of our close friends who have lost everything,” Paltrow wrote via Instagram at the time. “Thank you to those inquiring, we are currently safe.” She continued, “When the fires are out there will be more to say and everything to do. The city of angels will need angels of all kinds. Please everyone, stay safe and vigilant.”
Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Falchuck, wedded in September 2018. She was previously married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, and the two share a daughter, Apple, and a son, Moses.
