A Minecraft Movie was released recently, and its plot and strategically placed Easter eggs thrilled the audience, as it is a tribute to the YouTuber Technoblade. Technoblade is renowned for his proficiency in Minecraft. Sadly, the YouTuber passed away in 2022 after his battle with cancer. His role in this movie is a tribute to his work and fandom.
The movie's main character, Steve (Jack Black), meets a pig wearing a golden crown in a scene. This is a notable moment, and it's a nod to the late YouTuber's avatar. When someone asks in the scene if the pig is king, Steve pipes up and calls it a "legend." This just sums up the YouTuber’s legendary status within the Minecraft world.
How did Minecraft movie give tribute to late streamer Technoblade?
Director Jared Hess worked closely with the design team to put in this tribute. In an interview, he mentioned that actor Sebastian Hansen, who plays Henry in the film, was instrumental in ensuring the late YouTuber received recognition. Hansen brought up the idea during the film’s preparation, highlighting the content creator’s importance to the gaming world. The production team quickly embraced the idea, leading to the inclusion of this special nod in the final cut.
In an interview with Collider, Hess revealed:
“One of my favorite Easter eggs came from Sebastian, who plays Henry. When we were prepping the film, he was like, “Look, there's this amazing Minecraft player named Technoblade who passed away, and I would love to be able to honor him somehow in the film.” We were like, “Oh my goodness, of course.” So we spoke with our design team, and there's a really, really sweet, special nod to Technoblade in the film that is really cool.”
This is not the first time the YouTuber has been honored within the Minecraft universe. In December 2024, the Minecraft Championship paid tribute to him by featuring him as a playable card in the official trading card game. These moves show how influential he is to gamers, especially his amazing skills against other players and amazing tournament results. He won two Minecraft Championships and consistently ranked within the top nine in every official event he participated in.
A Minecraft Movie also features appearances from other prominent Minecraft content creators. YouTubers and streamers such as Aphmau, Mumbo Jumbo, LDShadowLady, and DanTDM make appearances, along with a cameo from Minecraft lead designer Jens Bergensten. These additions add a whole new level of excitement for die-hard fans of the game and its community members.
The reappearance of Technoblade in the new movie shows how influential the late YouTuber was. He gained fame for his livestreams, Minecraft videos, and participation in the Dream SMP.
