Elon Musk responded to Jimmy Kimmel after the comedian talked about people damaging Tesla cars. Musk didn’t find Kimmel’s jokes funny. Tesla has been at the heart of some drama lately with a rash of vandalism targeting their cars and shops. There's been a big heated spark flying around with Tesla stock, and it's got some big reactions.
During his monologue on Tuesday, Kimmel referenced Tesla’s stock downturn, making remarks about Musk’s leadership. His comments, particularly about the stock drop, were met with cheers from his studio audience. However, Musk did not take the jokes lightly, later calling Kimmel "an unfunny jerk" in response to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Tesla Vandalism Sparks Debate Between Elon Musk and Jimmy Kimmel
The vandalism incidents, which involve damage to Tesla vehicles and dealerships, have raised concerns about the motivations behind such acts. Reports suggest that protests against recent government spending cuts and layoffs, linked to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), may have contributed to the unrest.
While nobody has clear evidence yet of what political leanings people involved in companies have, Elon worries about hostility from different political ideologies at his company.
Kimmel said,
"People have been vandalizing Tesla vehicles, new Tesla vehicles. Please, don't vandalize, don’t ever vandalize Tesla vehicles."
Elon Musk replied to Kimmel's jokes saying:
"He’s such an unfunny jerk."
During an interview on Tuesday, Musk said,
"It's come as quite a shock to me that there is this level of real hatred and violence from the left."
He continued,
"I thought the left, you know, Democrats, were supposed to be the party of empathy, the party of caring. And yet they're burning down cars. They're firebombing dealerships. They're firing bullets into dealerships. They're just smashing up Teslas,"
Attorney General Pam Bondi released a statement saying,
"The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism. The Department of Justice has already charged several perpetrators with that in mind, including in cases that involve charges with five-year mandatory minimum sentences."
She added:
"We will continue investigations that impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks, including those operating behind the scenes to coordinate and fund these crimes."
For now, Tesla continues to operate under increased scrutiny as the conversation surrounding its stock performance, corporate decisions, and public reception evolves.
