In an interview at the Fifteen Percent Pledge's 15th Street Block Party in February 2025, John Legend once again voiced out his opinions regarding America's current president, Donald Trump. Legend's dislike for President Trump is not something new and somehow seems to be mutual. In the past, Legend has called Donald Trump a 'dyed-in-the-wool racist'.
Back in 2019, President Trump also hit back at Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen. The president described Legend as a 'boring musician' and his wife, as 'filthy-mouthed' after she called him a 'p**sy-a** b*tch'.
Recently, John Legend made news headlines for his two-month-old interview. In the interview, when the interviewer asked Legend why he thinks President Trump is so "latched" to the idea of diversity, he said:
"Well, he's a bigot... It's a belief that there's a hierarchy of racial groups and that his group is superior, genetically superior. He believes that. Whenever he talks about competence and qualifications, any white man will do for him," John explained, and the crowd seems to agree with him by cheering.

"He's already out blaming people, misinforming people, dividing people, when a smart and responsible, and good political way to handle it would have been to bring people together. Be a comforter-in-chief, you know."
In continuation of John Legend's speech about how any "white man will do" for President Donald Trump. He adds:
"Look at the last guy who was Secretary of Defense. He was a four-star General, supremely qualified Black man, and then see who he puts in after him. That's the level of bigotry that he has."
Legend concludes by saying:
"Any white man is better than that."
The people in reference to Legend's statement were Joe Biden's Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin (four-star General) and the present head of the Pentagon, who is Pete Hegseth.
John Legend has always been a liberal, and netizens were not happy with what he had to say about President Trump during the interview. Many came to defend the president, some even calling Legend a hypocrite for what he expressed.
