Kanye West has stirred up another round of controversy lately on social media. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the rapper addressed multiple topics, including his relationship with John Legend, his views on celebrity culture, and his alleged mistreatment by those around him.

West's comments have reignited discussions about his feud with Legend, which has been fueled by political differences.

West stated,

"I have never realized the amount of times that I've been crossed. Take John Legend for instance, like, I definitely changed his life, you know, brought him up all that. And, you know, he just went against me because I like Trump," West stated."

He added,

"It was nothing against him. He became a very vocal person against me. Like, I can't be his friend anymore."

Kanye West and John Legend's friendship strained by politics

Kanye West and Legend first met in New York years ago, forming a friendship that extended into their professional careers. West played a pivotal role in launching Legend’s music career, producing and promoting his early work. Their relationship hit a sour note in 2018 as Kanye West loudly came out in support of President Donald Trump.

Legend who up to that point hadn't really gotten involved with politics found West's stance confusing and tried to talk him into seeing things differently. And West released some private chats on social media, which really just deepened the rift between them now.

Legend’s first text said:

“Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion.”

He wrote,

“So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation."

West responded,

“I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought."

After sharing the messages, West tweeted,

“I tweeted the John text to show that there are people around me that disagree with me and voice their opinion. I respect everyone's opinion but I stand my ground."

He also added,

"If you feel something don't let peer pressure manipulate you."

West then shared John’s reply, which said,

“Think freely. Think with empathy and context too. Your words and actions have consequences. Much love.”

West then wrote,

"I really appreciate this dialogue with John Legend because I'm actually very empathetic. I'm still the kid from the telethon. I feel when people think of MAGA, they don't think of empathy."

Legend who up to that point hadn't really gotten involved with politics found West's stance very confusing and tried to talk him into seeing things differently. And West released some private chats on social media, which really just deepened the rift between them now.

In an interview, Legend confirmed that political disagreements had strained their friendship beyond repair.

Speaking on the Drink Champs podcast, Kanye West revealed,

“Both John Legend and Big Sean, when I ran for office, got used quick by the Democrats to come at their boy who actually changed their life, and that's some sellout shit. And I don't rock with neither of them. And I need my apologies.”

Despite their past friendship, it appears unlikely that Kanye West and Legend will mend their fractured friendship. Both artists have moved in different directions, with Legend focusing on his music and activism, while West remains an unpredictable figure in both entertainment and political discourse.
