Kim Kardashian's short-lived marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries arguably remains one of the most talked-about chapters of her love life. More than a decade after their 72-day marriage ended, Kim sheds light on the engagement ring drama that followed their divorce.

In the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim revealed that she had to return the 18-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring she received from Kris Humphries, though she largely paid for it herself.

Per People Magazine, Kim told her sister Khloé Kardashian while reminiscing about her past engagement rings:

"I wonder what my next ring shape will be — on my last and final hoorah. Number one was a cushion cut, 14-karat.

While reflecting on her second engagement ring, an 18-karat emerald cut, she said:

"I didn’t keep that. I was pregnant with [daughter] North [West], still married to him and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce."

She commented on the pressure and demand to return the second ring in the divorce, stating:

"He contributed a fifth."

Reports claim that Kris Humphries eventually auctioned off the ring for $749,000, which is far less than its reported $2 million price.

More on Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' engagement ring

Kim and Kris Humphrey’s engagement in 2011 was a grand affair. It started with an extravagant proposal featuring the 18-carat emerald-cut diamond ring designed by celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.

At the time, it was reported that the ring was worth around $2 million. However, as Kim Kardashian revealed in the recent episode, she had covered most of the cost. Lorraine assured her that parting with the ring was only for the best. Nevertheless, Kim stated,

"But I would’ve loved a collection."

Kim and Kris Humphrey's brief marriage

Kim and Kris’s relationship moved fast. A People Magazine report suggests that they got engaged six months after they started dating. Their August 2011 wedding was filmed for a two-part special on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. However, cracks in their relationship surfaced soon, and 72 days later, Kim filed for divorce.

While their marriage was short, the legal battle dragged on for nearly two years. It should also be noted rumors were swirling among enthusiasts that their relationship was a publicity stunt. Kim has also admitted that she did feel pressured to go through with the wedding because of the cameras and public expectations, reports claim.

People Magazine reports that in a past interview, Kim Kardashian confessed:

"I thought, 'Okay, we're filming this for a TV show. If I leave, I'm going to be known as the runaway bride forever and it's going to be a huge joke, and I think I just have cold feet.' So I was like, 'Okay guys, it's just cold feet, I got this, it's cold feet, we're filming the show.'"

She added,

"I was so nervous to break up with someone, I handled it totally the wrong way. I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I couldn't... I just didn't know how to deal. I learned so much from it."

Coming back to the engagement ring in question, after getting the ring back in the divorce, Kris Humphries put it up for auction. The ring was reportedly sold in 2013 for $749,000.
