Elon Musk came to the spotlight after the recent network outage on X. On Monday, March 10, 2025, social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) was almost down for the entire day as it faced three major sitewide outages. The issue caused an outrage among its users across the globe as no official statement addressing the reason behind it was released by the platform until evening.
In the evening, Elon Musk addressed the issue and released his statement citing a massive cyberattack as the reason behind X’s downtime. Elon Musk also revealed that besides the latest massive attack, the X app gets attacked every day. He even hinted at a probability of an attack being done by some coordinated group or a country.
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved,” Elon Musk said.
Internet users gave their mixed reactions to Elon Musk’s statement and X downtime
Several X users responded to Musk’s statement. While some said that the social media platform needs a technological upgrade, others wondered why any country would attack X.
“He made this up,” a netizen wrote.
“a country which country and why would they even do that,” commented another X user.
“Haha why is all a conspiracy just admit the tech needs to be upgraded and move on,” stated an user.
“Just fix ur app,” another user stated.
“X being X, this is just another day in the never-ending Twitter soap opera.,” a netizen stated.
Some took Musk’s response seriously and anticipated more details about the cyberattack in the near future, while others referred to it as a ‘crazy accusation.’
“Sounds serious. If a country is actually involved, that’s a whole different level of cyber warfare. X already has issues with bots and spam, but this sounds way bigger. Wonder if they’ll reveal more details soon,” commented another user.
“I wonder what large, coordinated group and/or country is involved?,” wrote a user.
“hope they can figure out who’s behind it this sounds serious,” commented a netizen.
“"a country is involved" is a crazy accusation lmfao,” user commented.
Elon Musk took over X in 2022
X, which was previously known as Twitter, was bought by Elon Musk for $44 billion in October 2022.
A public Telegram post stated that the group of hackers, known as Dark Storm Team, allegedly took responsibility for a Distributed Denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the social media site.
Many users were unable to refresh their feeds or read posts due to the millions of users who reported login problems, unsuccessful page loads, and messages of error.
Earlier in March 2023, when the platform was still known as Twitter, users endured a string of technical issues that lasted for more than an hour. Similar issues of inoperable links, unsuccessful login attempts, and more issues were encountered by users.
As of this writing, the social media platform is live again following a worldwide outage from its users.
