Diddy's legal counsel is opposing the $60 million s*xual harassment lawsuit of former Da Band member Sara Rivers.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, the disgraced mogul, who faces a litany of lawsuits in the same vein, now faces a new lawsuit from his former employee. Rivers, a member of his group, Da Band, is suing the mogul and his label, Bad Boy Records. She is accusing him of abusing her repeatedly while filming the group's reality series.
However, Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, is fighting these accusations and instead rubbishing Rivers' lawsuit as nothing but "false claims." They're also accusing her of trying to profit off the situation.
Sara Rivers' case against Diddy explored:
As reported by People Magazine, a response from Diddy's legal team reads as follows:
"This is yet another example of false claims being filed against Mr. Combs. No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. With the deadline for New York’s Gender-Motivated Violence Act expiring tomorrow, it’s clear that opportunists are rushing to file last-minute, meritless claims. Mr. Combs remains confident he will prevail in court.”
Sara Rivers, who went by Sara Strokes on the MTV reality series Making the Band, has filed a 148-page lawsuit just before the deadlines on all claims in connection with New York City’s Gender Motivated Violence Act was about to close.
Rivers also named Universal Music, MTV, Bad Boy officials, and Combs' mother, Janice, as defendants in the case, People Magazine has reported. Her complaint outlines instances where Diddy allegedly abused her, subjected her to assault, s*xual harassment, and battery, and forced her to work under "inhumane" conditions. She claims to have been mocked for her appearance.
In one instance, she claims to have been walking down a hallway when Combs forced himself on her. He was allegedly close enough
"where he could kiss her and asks her in a low, sensual voice how she is doing, if she's ok and if she needed anything at all."
Combs allegedly then
"used his left hand to adjust collar of her jacket and then ran his left hand across her breasts while repeating the phrase if she needs anything to let him know."
Her suit also accuses the rapper of "making physical threats to group members" and claimed that he "threatened to eat the face of one person and kill another."
"Defendant Diddy was often times yelling and ridiculing Plaintiff, especially during times Plaintiff sought him out to redress issues she was facing in the group," the suit claims.
Per the outlet, Combs subjected Rivers to "aggressive and abusive behavior," as well as an "inhumane" working environment. She claims she was
"the only individual who Defendant Diddy scrutinized in such a s*xual and humiliating manner."
According to People Magazine, Sara Rivers also accused Diddy of forcing her to do "uncompensated manual labor," naming the show's infamous cheesecake episode. In it, she and her bandmates were made to walk to and fro from Manhattan to Brooklyn to get the mogul some cheesecake.
Rivers claims that after three seasons of the show, she and her bandmates were only paid a "flat $5000 per show per person." She also claims that she only ever received a one-time payment of $25,000 when she put her name on a publishing contract she felt "pressured" to sign.
Diddy is currently being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn while his trial is slated to begin this May. He currently faces complaints from 14 other women, as well as dozens of individuals who have accused him of s*xual misconduct.
