Although many rappers and singers supported Kamala Harris during her Presidential campaign, Nicki Minaj was nowhere near it. However, on April 7, 2025, X account Drama Alert posted an AI-generated video of Harris and Hillary Clinton starring in Minaj’s 2017 song Rake It Up from the album I Still Am.
The AI video shows Harris and Clinton driving a car. As the former Vice President gulps down from a bottle, Clinton holds a gun with one hand and the steering wheel with the other. Both wore pink outfits. At one point in the video, Hilary Clinton sat on the car’s bonnet and Kamala Harris drove it. The AI-generated video also included clips of the two chilling at a restaurant.
Toward the end, Clinton held a spray paint on her hand and a cigarette in her mouth with "2028" written on a Donald Trump poster. However, it is not an authentic video as the caption mentions:
"AI MUSIC VIDEOS KEEP GOING SO HARD."
During her Presidential campaign, Harris received support from rappers like Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Common, Jermaine Dupri, and others. Cardi B also supported Kamala Harris in an Instagram post, criticizing people for underestimating her.
Jermaine Dupri was also a supporter of Harris. Meanwhile, Lizzo responded to claims against Kamala Harris. She said the Vice President's job was usually not in the public eye. Lizzo also said it was wrong to expect the vice president to do things publicly. She called the negative comments old-fashioned.
Kamala Harris' take on hip-hop and how it was a part of her life
In 2023, Kamala Harris held a celebration at the White House recognizing the 50th anniversary of hip-hop music. Artists like Roxanne Shante, Common, MC Lyte, and others were in attendance. At the party, she said:
“I don't need to tell anybody here but hip hop is the ultimate American art form, born at a back-to-school party in the Bronx, raised on the Streets of Philadelphia, Chicago, Oakland and Atlanta, nearly every aspect of America's popular culture and it reflects the incredible diversity and ingenuity of the American people.”
Kamala Harris talked about how hip-hop brought together rhythms from African, Caribbean, and Latin American roots along with soul, gospel, R&B, and funk to create something unique. She said hip-hop wasn’t just music but a part of American culture. According to her, it symbolized strength, confidence, ambition, pride, and purpose. She said:
“Hip-hop has been a part of my life since its very beginning. From growing up knowing every word to Rapper's Delight, to being in high school when my best friend from kindergarten, Stacy Johnson, who is here, would pick me up in her father's black Cadillac Coupe DeVille to drive to a club in the city where the DJ played and we danced until we needed to take off our shoes.”
Speaking to Billboard in 2015, Nicki Minaj said she supported Hillary Clinton and admired her strength and resilience, especially in male-dominated spaces. She respected how Clinton pushed through challenges, including personal ones, and kept moving forward, something she believed all women could look up to.
