“Andrew’s spirit is free” - YouTuber Andrew Cross Aka Desert Drifter dies one month after sustaining injuries in car accident

YouTuber Andrew Cross, better known as Desert Drifter, died a month after he sustained major injuries in a car accident.

Desert Drifter's sister, Jenna Spooner, issued the update on their fundraising campaign page on CaringBridge. She revealed that he was taken off life support yesterday, after which he was put on a mobile ventilator. The latest statement reads, in part:

"Hi friends, Andrew’s spirit is free, surrounded by light & love 🤍 He went to be with the Lord today, March 4 at 10:50 AM MST. It was peaceful and full of love in the room with Evelyn by his side, his parents and close friends nearby. It’s a big loss for all of us, and we’re immensely grateful for your steadfast support and prayers ❤️ Throughout all of this, it’s been our heart to stay full of faith, so we wouldn’t look back and wonder “what if…” 🙏🏼 Thank you for walking in that with us."

The 34-year-old YouTuber, renowned for his travel and adventure-centric content, got into a major car accident last month. He consequently sustained a traumatic brain injury, as revealed by his wife, Evelyn, in a YouTube video uploaded on February 1, 2025.

She revealed that Desert Drifter was immediately put under for brain surgery, following which he was given care in the ICU. She said in the clip, as she implored his followers to pray for him:

“This community has been the most enormous blessing to us both this past year. You are all more than just his subscribers, you are people who recognize just how special he is and show up to honor that week after week with your time and kind words. I feel confident that he would want you all to know this news. Please be praying for him and sending all of the good thoughts.”

In the update, Desert Drifter's sister also thanked the community for their "steadfast support and prayers" amid his death.

"Andrew really lived life to the fullest, and his story & impact isn’t over yet. It’s been wonderful to get to know him in new ways as we’ve seen photos and stories shared by so many," Jenna's update concluded. "We look forward to more of that as we honor a life well lived."

At the time of his demise, a GoFundMe page was also launched to ease the Cross family's medical expenses, and People Magazine has reported that it touched $479,491 in alms.
