Rapper Meek Mill has a few words of wisdom for today’s youth about incarceration. On March 12, 2025, he shared a photo of him sitting in a prison cell with a message. He warned that navigating the system can be overwhelming without legal knowledge, family support, money for defense, or even food.
Meek Mill’s post got the attention of netizens. Many appreciated the way he used the platform to generate awareness. One Instagram user (@aieshamusic) commented:
“And that is how you use a public platform, great message Meeks.”

Netizens stressed the importance of Meek Mill’s message as many noted the need to change the narrative.

Social media users backlashed others for sharing negative comments as others put forward personal experiences.

Meek Mill had previously spoken up about his desire to bring change in prison reforms
The rapper described the harsh reality of prison, pointing out that the same rusty toilet is also the source of drinking water. He concluded the Instagram post by writing:
“If you got a chance to slide "leave that sh*t behind " SAVE YOUR SELF THEN TRY TO HELP YOUR PEOPLES! THESE TOILETS FOR " HEATHENS ONLY"”
In 2018, Meek Mill got bail from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court after he was imprisoned for a probation violation. He spoke to NBC News about criminal justice reform, saying:
“I committed my words to some of the people that I know were like incarcerated and people that stood up for me when I was in prison.”
In an interview with CBS Morning in 2018, Meek Mill spoke about how minorities often face certain struggles in prison, where many don’t have a voice. He described prisons as isolated worlds, cut off from society and the media.
He acknowledged that he was fortunate to have powerful people support him, but for those who grow up in certain environments, getting arrested feels normal. Mill emphasized how lucky he was to have influential people backing him.
He explained that his situation was always about more than just himself. His main goal wasn’t recognition but helping others and making a difference in the world. He valued having a platform to speak about important issues and believes that even if he can help just one person, it’s worth it.
