Beyoncé and Jay-Z are no longer mentioned in a civil complaint originally brought against music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. Plaintiff Manzaro Joseph, who originally accused the duo of attending a so-called "freak-off" party, has updated his complaint as of April 11, 2025, so that he sheds any mention of the two artists. The revision essentially removes previous intimations that they had been present at the party in question.

The update quiets hysterical rumor-mongering: Did Beyoncé and Jay-Z go to the rumored party? Their names are no longer mentioned, and they are not charged with anything in the case, the newly filed documents state.

Background of the initial allegations

According to an X post by XXL Magazine, in the first lawsuit, Joseph said he was s*xually assaulted and drugged by Diddy at a 2015 Miami "freak-off" where he was made to wear a suggestive mask on his face and paraded around the party. He also alleged that both Jay-Z and Beyoncé were present at the party and witnessed him. The Carters strongly denied the allegations. Joseph has now refiled an amended suit that does not include the power couple. He is still suing Diddy.

Interestingly, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were never introduced to anything. The pair appeared only in early accounts of individuals that had been present. But the updated complaint filed on April 11 leaves out entirely any reference to the couple, effectively erasing them altogether from the story in the courtroom.

Explanation in the amended document

Based on reports from The Indian Express, there is no mention of Jay-Z or Beyoncé in the new complaint. The complaint nonetheless is made against the remaining claims and parties. The reasons as to why they dropped their names were not publicized, nor is there mention of a reason being stated within the amended complaint.

Up till now, neither Beyoncé nor Jay-Z has issued any public comments about the initial or revised filings. Jay-Z's lawyer publicly revealed that the Carters were not even in Miami when the incident took place. Without their names being included in the legal filings anymore, they are no longer subjects of any claims being actively sought in this case.

LeBron James still listed in the complaint

While Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been dropped from the lawsuit, LeBron James is still listed in the amended complaint. As in the initial filing, he is characterized as a witness, not as one of those involved in any suspected wrongdoing. He has not had any criminal charges filed against him, and the case is civil only.

James has not issued a public remark, and his spokesperson mentioned that he was not in Miami either during the mentioned time. However, there is no word that the charges against him have been withdrawn yet.

Diddy's legal team reacts

E News states that Sean "Diddy" Combs and his lawyers have denied all the charges in the original and amended complaints in their entirety. They have termed the charges as "baseless" and have vowed to defend Combs in court vigorously.

While the revised filing puts some bounds on celebrity participation, the suit itself is still very much in the public spotlight and newsworthy because of the character of the accusations and the celebrities still on the list.

Legal proceedings moving forward

The suit, being a civil case, must have the plaintiff establish claims on a preponderance of the evidence standard, which is lower than the standard in a criminal case. The court will go forward on the most recent version of the complaint, and no trial date has been set yet.

Revisions to civil suits are the rule of thumb, particularly in multi-defendant cases with changing accusations. Legal experts comment that adjusting a complaint doesn't weaken a case but is simply the process of law narrowing or dismissing claims due to new evaluations.

As of now, the case remains ongoing with Sean "Diddy" Combs as the primary defendant and LeBron James still listed. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been completely dropped, and no additional claims remain pending against them.

Future case developments will likely arise through official court filings or statements from the parties involved.
