Michelle Obama is getting candid about her life, politics, health, and more in her new In My Opinion Podcast with Craig Robinson. She revealed that one of the reasons for starting the podcast with her elder brother is that he is one of the few people she turns to "whenever" she has something on her "mind."

Michelle hopes that through the podcast and discussions with "special guests," including Seth Rogen, Jay Shetty, Keke Palmer, and others, they will be able to help viewers navigate the hassles of everyday life. During the conversation, Michelle Obama described her brother as one of her biggest supporters during their time in the White House. She noted in the first episode:

“I couldn’t have gotten through eight years in the White House without my big brother."

She added,

“You talked me into supporting his run and he was smart enough to know that he needed to come to you and sell you on the idea.”

Michelle Obama revealed her initial apprehension about Barack running for president, calling it a "crazy" idea at first. Robinson explained that it wasn't just Michelle— their mother, Marian Robinson, also wasn’t on board with the idea.

Robinson then decided to talk to Michelle and reminded her of her own advice about "following your passion" and "doing things you love." Michelle shared that Craig often supported the family dynamics by spending time with her and Barack's daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Craig was resolute in his stance and noted:

"I think the thing that pushed it over the top was I convinced you to not penalize him for being really good at what he does."

Craig eventually persuaded not only Michelle but the entire family to get on board with the idea, and he soon became an integral part of Barack’s eight-year tenure. He emphasized the importance of family accepting Barack’s decision and explained:

“This means all of us are doing it because of the scrutiny you guys would be under, the work you’re going to have to do."

Michelle summarized the experience, noting that she "could count" on her brother every step of the way.

This marks Michelle Obama's third podcast initiative after launching The Michelle Obama Podcast in 2020 and The Light We Carry in 2023.
