The shooting case of Jillian Lauren has gained significant traction due to the writer's high profile. Two weeks ago, it was announced that Best-selling author Jillian Lauren was shot by the police and has been charged with attempted murder.
The incident occurred after the 51-year-old writer was caught up in a search for hit-and-run suspects who the police believed ran into Jillian’s neighborhood. Chasing the suspects to the street where Jillian lives with her husband, the police found Jillian Lauren with a gun, which she refused to drop after many pleas from the police. The officers at the scene shot the writer after she pointed her handgun and shot at them.
Recently, a newly released police footage shows how the confrontation took place. The officers at the scene could be heard yelling at Jillian to put down her weapon.
“Put the gun down! Hey, put the gun down.”
“Lay the gun down,” officers are heard saying in the body cam video.
“Ma’am, put the gun down. Ma’am, we’re trying to help you!” another officer tried to reason with Jillian.
From the released footage, officers can be heard repeatedly identifying themselves as the police and telling Jillian that she could be shot if she doesn't follow their request to drop the gun. After a while, one officer says in the video:
“She just pointed it, not at us, but she just lifted it up.”
A few seconds later, another officer reports: “Oh, she racked it.”
Gunfire, at least eight gunshot sounds, followed immediately. According to LAPD, two officers fired and wounded the author in the shoulder, and no officers were injured during the confrontation.
