Halle Bailey, the Little Mermaid actress, shocked netizens when she dropped the news of her giving birth to a baby boy. On January 6, 2024, she posted on Instagram saying that she has welcomed her son, Halo, with her ex-boyfriend DDG.

Halo was born at the end of 2023. Even though the fans were speculating for months, both Halle and DDG kept the pregnancy a secret.

Halle posted on Instagram, saying

“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo. The world is desperate to know you.”

In her other posts, Halle Bailey called her son "the greatest blessing" and she keeps sharing adorable pictures of Halo on her Instagram page.

Why Halle Bailey Kept her Pregnancy Private

Throughout 2023, rumors about Halle's pregnancy was all over the internet. But she never confirmed anything. Later, she explained that she chose to keep it a secret for her own peace of mind. She did it for her and her child's protection.

Halle Bailey was also busy with major projects, like The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple. Even when she was pregnant, she attended events, gave interviews, and promoted her films without letting anyone know about her pregnancy.

Halle Bailey later said that being busy really helped her emotionally. She also stayed off social media because she didn't really want outside opinions to affect her.

“Things like that, it just helps my brain and to feel sane. Because there's a lot of emotional vulnerability that you experience going through all of that.”

Halle Bailey's life as a Mother

Halle is co-parenting her son with her ex-boyfriend, the rapper DDG. The couple were together for over two years. But in October 2024, they announced their breakup. DDG posted on Instagram, saying

"As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we've built and the beautiful moments we've shared."

They are still "best friends" and they would lovingly take care of Halo together.

DDG revealed that the pregnancy was not planned. Halle Bailey found out that she was pregnant shortly after The Little Mermaid premiered. However, both of them were quite happy, and they were really excited to become parents.

Halle Bailey has spoken openly about the challenges of motherhood. She admitted that she struggled with postpartum depression. She said,

“Now going through it, it almost feels like you're swimming in this ocean that's like the biggest waves you've ever felt and you're trying not to drown. And you're trying to come up for air.”

She also talked about how her body felt different, and she couldn't recognize herself. Despite such challenges, she loves Halo and calls him "perfect" and "a miracle." His name was chosen by DDG, and Halle Bailey said that her son "definitely has a theme song."

Being a mother might have changed Halle's life, and it was not all smooth, but Halo is her biggest joy.
