Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron had been in the public eye due to rumors of their romantic relationship.
Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, issued a statement on Thursday:
"We would like to address the recent claims regarding Kim Soo-hyun aired on the YouTube channel Hoverlab (Garo Sero Institute). Gold Medalist will clarify the facts and respond to baseless rumors with clear evidence by releasing an official statement next week."
They further added,
"We apologize for the prolonged fatigue this situation may have caused."
Kim Sae-ron's family levies allegations on Kim Soo-hyun
The matter started when the late actress' family accused the actor of having a six-year relationship with their daughter. It was further escalated when Garo Sero Institute, a YouTube channel, uploaded evidence through texts and photos of the same. The family claimed that Kim Sae-ron was a minor at that time, as the actress started dating at 15.
Soon after the news, a new letter was circulated, which is believed to be written by Kim Soo-hyun. The letter is claimed to have been written when the actor was doing his military service. It also had a photo of him kissing the late actress, Kim Sae-ron, on the cheeks.
Among the other lines, one line that caught fans' attention was:
"It’s a good day to think of Saero Nero ( nickname of Kim Sae-ron)."
According to the evidence, the two dated from 2015 to 2021, which leads to a six-year relationship. Kim Sae-ron's aunt also revealed that they wanted to get married.
However, in the letter, their full names were not revealed, and only the nicknames were given, which added to fans' speculation.
After the news caught viewers' attention, there was pressure on MBC to remove him from the variety show Good Day. However, the show’s producers have not officially decided or announced whether he will continue to be part of the show or be removed.
Brands including HomePlus, Shabu All Day, and K2 Korea have already removed Kim Soo-hyun's promotional photos after the news caught attention. The beauty brand Dinto has also paused all ads featuring the actor after the backlash.
Kim Sae-ron was discovered dead at her Seoul home on February 16, which coincided with Kim Soo-hyun's birthday. Gold Medalist will be releasing their statement next week with further evidence.
