Word on the streets is that popular steamer PlaqueBoyMax has been nominated for the 10th spot in XXL Magazine’s Freshman Class 2025. Other nominees on the list reportedly include Hurricane Wisdom, Jorjiana, Lefty Gunplay, and Skrilla, amongst others.

For context, XXL Freshman Class is an annual list curated by XXL magazine showcasing up-and-coming hip-hop artists who are creating waves with their talent. The Magazine announced 2025’s nominees on April 21, and @Scubaryan shared the news that Plaqueboymax, aka FaZe Max, had been nominated.

The news was met with mixed reactions from Netizens. @VictorVanCuren tweeted in response:

“But he doesn’t rap? Thought the freshman class thing was for rappers.”

The sentiment was echoed by other X users who believed that he was undeserving of the spot:

“I thought the freshman class was only for rappers? Doesn’t he just produce beats?” @ChanFromMinny asked.
“he's nice as an engineer but mid at best as a rapper.. would solely be making it off of clout.. ig that's what u gotta do tho if u XXL cuz u got nun else going for u nowadays,” @chRRRizztopher added.
“How is this fire he doesn’t even rap,” @Fatherfrost23 expressed.

Other X users praised the Twitch streamer and predicted that he would have the most votes:

“He definitely going to have the most votes,” @OfficialDDaniel tweeted.
“Mans really about to get that XXL shine,” @jaime_solis added.
“List might actually be decent this year if Max on it,” @omarhustla replied.

PlaqueBoyMax announces plans to decline XXL Freshman Class 2025 nomination

In a live stream on April 22, 2025, the FaZe Clan member revealed to his audience that he planned to decline his nomination from the hip-hop magazine’s list as he had not released music for a year:

"Hopefully, my boy BT will get it now. Will I be doing XXL? I'm not going to lie, no. Shoutout to XXL, tho,"

He added:

"I’m not gonna lie. It’s an honor tho. I appreciate the love, especially since I haven't dropped music the whole year."

PlaqueBoyMax grew in popularity due to his interactive series on Twitch, In The Booth, where he invited SoundCloud stars like Trippie Redd and others like Cash Cobain, Bay Swag, and Fivio Foreign to record music from scratch.
