OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, just updated its AI tool with a new feature on March 25. The new feature claims to turn photos into Studio Ghibli-style artwork. Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio, famous for its works in movies like Princess Mononoke, The Boy and the Heron, and Spirited Away.

The new update generated curiosity among the ChatGPT users, who further shared their own results on social media.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, soon joined the humor by adding a tweet on his X account in which he said:

">be me >grind for a decade trying to help make superintelligence to cure cancer or whatever >mostly no one cares for first 7.5 years, then for 2.5 years everyone hates you for everything >wake up one day to hundreds of messages: "look i made you into a twink ghibli style haha"

Sam Altman introduces the new ChatGPT feature

Before releasing the new ChatGPT feature, Altman uploaded a tweet on March 25 giving a brief introduction to the new features that can turn photos into Studio Ghibli-style artwork.

In the tweet, he gave two attributes of the new feature by adding:

"it's an incredible technology/product. i remember seeing some of the first images come out of this model and having a hard time they were really made by AI."

For the second attribute, he wrote:

"this represents a new high-water mark for us in allowing creative freedom. people are going to create some really amazing stuff and some stuff that may offend people; what we'd like to aim for is that the tool doesn't create offensive stuff unless you want it to, in which case within reason it does."

Sam Altman, in support of the new feature, also changed his Twitter profile picture and wrote:

"Changed my pfp but maybe someone will make me a better one."

User's reaction to the new feature of ChatGPT

The feature soon became popular with internet users uploading their own creatives. Along with the famous memes, many users used their own profile pictures to turn them into artwork and show it on the internet.

Sam Altman also responded to the increasing popularity of the feature by adding:

"images in chatgpt are wayyyy more popular than we expected (and we had pretty high expectations)."

Right now, the Studio Ghibli-style artwork feature is only available for ChatGPT paid users. The free version of the tool might take a while to release because of its increasing popularity. As of now, ChatGPT is capable of generating graphic images upon giving commands by using DALL-E. However, it comes with a limit for free users.
