The 2025 Oscars are starting in a few hours, but not everyone is invited. A few well-known faces in Hollywood have been banned from this prestigious event due to their own acts of misconduct or violation of the rules set by The Academy.

Over the years, The Academy has grown intolerant of individuals who break rules because of their position in the industry. The result of this is banning them from attending the Oscars ceremony. One of the most recent individuals who was banned from attending the Oscars is Will Smith, husband of Jada Smith.

If you are curious to know who else is on the Oscars' banned list, keep reading.

List of people who are banned from attending the Oscars

While it is not too common for the Academy to ban someone from attending the Oscars, there have been a few individuals who have broken the Oscars code and are not allowed to step foot at the award ceremony.

Here is a list of the individuals and the reasons why they were banned.

Will Smith

The most recent individual banned by the Academy was Will Smith in 2022. Smith is banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years after slapping the 94th Oscars' host, Chris Rock, over a joke he made about Smith's wife, Jada Smith. Will Smith did not resist or fight the decision of the Academy and accepted it.

Carmine Caridi

One of the first people to have been banned by the Academy from attending the Oscars is Carmine Caridi. The reason behind Caridi's ban is that he leaked screeners to the internet. Screeners are copies of a new film or show that are not yet made public. They were meant to be exclusively for the members so they could view and vote. However, Caridi's actions led to him being banned in 2004.

Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby is one of the most well-known names in Hollywood, and not for the right reasons. He was convicted of drugging and s*xually ab*sing Andrea Constand, a basketball player. Crosby was banned from the Oscars in 2018 for his actions. Cosby has won numerous awards over the span of his career as an actor, comedian, and media personality. However, due to the allegations, many of the titles and awards were recalled.

Roman Polanski

In the same year, 2018, the Academy also blacklisted Roman Polanski. Polanski is a well-known figure in Hollywood. But in order to avoid prosecution, he departed the United States in 2018 after entering a guilty plea to having inappropriate relations with a minor. To this day, Polanski is still the recipient of his Academy Award for The Pianist.

Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein is another producer who is on the Oscars' banned list. He has produced numerous well-known films and has won many awards for his work. This includes an Academy Award for Shakespeare In Love. In 2017, Weinstein was convicted of several se*ual assault cases, which led to his exile from the Oscars.

Adam Kimmel

The last individual on the Oscars' banned list is Adam Kimmel. Kimmel is a cinematographer and was also a part of the Academy. The reason that led to his expulsion from the Oscars is due to the news about his arrest, which involved inappropriate acts with minors. Kimmel has been arrested twice for the same reason.

From the above list, it can be said that the Academy does not tolerate any kind of misconduct from anyone in the industry, no matter their status or prestige in Hollywood. The individuals on this list may have made a tremendous contribution to the film industry, but their actions have led them to be removed from the Oscars.
