Ethan Klein, a popular podcaster and YouTuber, in his recent YouTube video on the H3 podcast channel, revealed his plan to protest outside the Reddit HQ.
He made this announcement in response to the targeted harassment his family has been facing from a particular Reddit group. The show, which is hosted by Ethan and his wife Hila, aired recently, where they talk about the Child Protective Services (CPS) visiting his house, false reports, and online harassment.
During the show, Ethan made this announcement of protesting outside the Reddit headquarters to draw attention to the fact that the platform allows certain groups to harass and target creators and public figures.
What made Ethan Klein stand up to Reddit?
Ethan Klein and Hila Klein have recently been involved with conflicts from certain Reddit communities. Things escalated when an individual named ''Snark'' filed a false report against the family.
The false report was made to the Child Protective Services (CPS), which later led the CPS to visit Klein's residence to investigate unfounded allegations that concerned the well-being of his children. They talk about the whole CPS situation on the H3 podcast channel.
He mentioned the information that was given to CPS by the anonymous caller. He said:
"It turned into this Snark (r/h3snark) narrative that our house is a mess, that there's dog sh*t everywhere and that Sunny is eating sh*t and getting giardia. It culminated in somebody, an anonymous call, went into them (CPS) on the 3rd saying that they were someone that works at the house and they wanted to report us because our kids are crawling around and eating dog sh*t and getting viruses."
He then went on to explain how this information was probably taken from his other episodes on the channel. The episode further discusses the emotional and legal ramifications of such false reports, the misuse of CPS resources, and the distress this incident caused to their family.
In the episode, Ethan and Hila also expressed their experience of dealing with the investigation and their frustration with how easily an anonymous person could use the CPS against creators.
Ethan Klein vs. Reddit: Fight against Online Harassment
Kelin has initiated legal proceedings against the members of the Reddit community who targeted his family.
He also posted an Instagram story where he mentioned that he would be filing a police report against the fraudulent CPS calls and would also be working on getting permits to protest outside the Reddit headquarters.
In the video, he also mentioned how the protest would be to raise awareness so that the platform takes strict actions against groups that perpetuate such harmful behaviors.
