Dream announced that he was going to rebrand his image to start a new chapter in his career. The popular Minecraft YouTuber Dream, real name Carl, made this announcement on April 17. He shared via his official X account:

“I will be doing a rebranding around the end of the month to start a new chapter.”

Following this post, he shared a cryptic image via his X account the next day showcasing a monitor screen with two icons labeled blob.txt and Trash Bin. This post led fans to speculate if he was going to abandon his iconic smiley face mask again after a failed attempt.

However, the popular YouTuber went live on Saturday, April 26, to reveal a new beginning as VTuber.

More details on Dream’s rebrand as a VTuber

Despite his immense popularity, Dream had always been an anonymous YouTuber, but that changed when he decided to reveal his face in 2022. He might have expected a positive reception, but that wasn't the case. His face reveal was met with immense backlash and criticism from fans and netizens, leading to him wearing his mask all over again.

Three years later, he announced that he would be rebranding, and fans considered whether he had decided to unmask again, but this time permanently. However, the YouTuber revealed that he would be turning his blob mascot into a VTuber model. On Saturday, April 26, Dream announced in a style meant to imitate an old-school Apple keynote.

During the double stream on YouTube and X, the topic of discussion first started with Dream as a brand before moving to the topic of his mascot, the blob.

“Let's talk about what we tried to do to address the problems but failed. First, we tried adjusting line thickness, and it didn't really do much; it looks kinda bad and is still kinda stupid. So we tried to do consistency; we tried to adjust it like my Minecraft skin where we got the smile on my chest, but that also doesn't look good. We tried to give me more aura, but it didn't work. I didn't like it. I didn't have the aura required. We tried to make it more realistic; we took my face, stretched it out, and put it on the blob, but it didn't look right. So we threw that all away.”
“Here are the problems with the blob. It’s not expressive, it’s not versatile, there’s zero depth… it doesn’t move. It’s just… It’s just a blob,” he said.
“So we reinvented the wheel, right? There are some key components I thought we could add to address the problems: motion, the Dream brand, and 3D… So, what did we come up with? It’s Dream 2.0, we added height, width, and depth. You can actually see the side profile. So now… I’m a VTuber,” he added.

Despite the announcement, fans remained unimpressed, stating it would have been better if he hadn't revealed his face from the beginning.
