Chelsea Handler has commented on the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, implying that both stars are fueling the ongoing public debate surrounding their case. In an interview with Page Six, Handler explained,
"The reason it's such a frenzy is that they keep releasing more and more stuff."
She questioned why the situation continues to escalate, adding,
“Don’t they know to stop?”
She also advised both actors to reconsider their approach, saying,
“Stop it! You’re not helping yourself.”
Handler compares the situation to a "fight in a schoolyard"
Handler personally addressed Baldoni's move to release personal text messages sent and received with Lively. She called the legal fight unnecessary and prolonged.
"It's like you have to break up a fight in a schoolyard playground," she stated.
The lawsuit between the two actors started in December 2024 when Lively, in New York federal court, sued Baldoni for sexual harassment, emotional distress, and monetary losses.
Baldoni disputed the claims and countersued. His lawsuit included Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist, Leslie Sloane, alleging defamation and extortion in a $400 million lawsuit. He also sued The New York Times for $250 million over its reporting of the allegations.

Handler speaks about the case while hosting Critics Choice Awards
Earlier this month, Handler made comments regarding the controversy while hosting the 2025 Critics Choice Awards. She mentioned the ongoing court battle as a major media story, joking that it had served as a distraction from political news.
"Waking up each morning, never knowing what news we are going to hear that will disappoint or shock us. So, it's essential, in these kinds of times, to have a distraction," she stated.
She then continued,
"That's why I personally want to thank Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively. Thank you for giving us that distraction. I'm thankful. I think we're all thankful, and I think we're good. I think everyone in this room—no matter what side you're on—we can all agree to accept that there's probably not going to be a sequel."

Lively and Baldoni’s case moves forward with no settlement talks
The legal dispute has continued to develop, with both sides making legal filings and public statements. Lively recently criticized a The Hollywood Reporter cover about the case, saying it played into “sexist tropes” about women who file workplace complaints.
Despite the continued public debate, the judicial process has not been settled. The lawsuits have been combined, and a trial will commence on March 9, 2026. The lawyers for both Lively and Baldoni have declined court-proposed mediation, saying that settlement talks would be "premature."
Handler's comments are indicative of a wider public focus on the case, as both actors remain embroiled in legal action and media attention. The case is still ongoing, with no clear resolution on the horizon.
