Cover Corporation stocks plummet amid Gawr Gura graduation news from Hololive

The cute and quirky Gawr Gura, who is beloved among VTuber fans worldwide, recently announced her departure in a livestream. The Shark Girl from Atlantis has over four million YouTube subscribers, and her 'graduation' announcement has significantly affected the Cover Corporation, 'graduation' meaning departure in this context.

Cover Corporation is a Japanese entertainment tech company that manages virtual YouTubers through their agency. called Hololive Production. Gawr Gura is affiliated with Hololive English and since her graduation announcement came in, the tech company has experienced a notable decline in their stocks.

Recently VTubers including Ceres Fauna and Murasaki Shion had also departed from Hololive English.


Cover Corporation stocks drop following Gawr Gura's graduation

Gawr Gura, a cultural icon in the VTuber community, announced her graduation in a livestream on April 16, 2025. She first posted a cryptic message on her social media saying that she had an important announcement for her fans.

Then during the livestream, she confirmed her graduation and said that May 1, 2025 would be her last day with Hololive English. She made her debut in September 2020 and since then, the community has shown her character immense love and appreciation. As far as the reasons for her departure are concerned, disagreements with the company have been cited as the primary reason.

While announcing her retirement she mentioned that she has been lucky and is thankful to the agency with whom she has worked for five years. She said:

''It’s been an honor and a dream come true. I’ve been able to achieve what I thought for a very long time would be impossible for a girl like me, to feel a part of something and to belong.''

Hololive production also took to their X (formerly Twitter) account where they announced Gawr's graduation. They appreciated her for her efforts, acknowledged the contributions she made, and wished her luck on her journey forward.

She is well-known for her singing skills, casual gaming, and zatsudan (chatting) content. Her charming personality and genuine connection with fans have helped her build a community of 4.56 million subscribers.

Gawr Gura was one of the first members of Hololive English and it was because of her that many other Japanese talents got exposure and the community grew. Hence, when her graduation announcement came out, the shares of Cover Corporation plummeted by approximately 10%.

The closing price of the company's stock on the previous day, April 15, was ¥2,366, and then with the announcement it declined. With one of the most valuable creators leaving the company, investors would have worried about the company losing fans and viewership, and hence the decline in stocks.


Previously other talents including Minato Aqua, and Amelia Watson departed in 2024, and in 2025, Sakamata Chloe and Ceres Fauna also departed, raising concerns among fans, followers, and investors.
